The Finnish Cinematic/Prog Metal band Subspace Radio releases its fourth album “Dreams of Shapes and Forms” through Eclipse Music on May 23, 2025. Watch the official lyric video for the single “Storm” through the YouTube player below:
The band states: “This is track #7 from the new Subspace Radio album “Dreams of Shapes and Forms”. Featuring our lovely Päivi Karjala on duet vocals. This became a song with gothic rock, cinematic synthesizers and low key metal vibes. What do you think song this is all about? Take a listen…“
Originally formed in 2002, Subspace Radio gained recognition for their modern Progressive Rock sound, marked by intricate storytelling and immersive atmospheres woven into each of their thematic albums. Over the years, the band has developed a unique sound within the Finnish music scene, with their previous releases including the 2022 album “Aika,” solidifying their position as a notable act in the genre.
Subspace Radio‘s music is characterized by its Progressive nature, drawing inspiration from various genres and musical influences. The band’s commitment to storytelling and musical innovation has earned them praise from both fans and critics alike.
This album has been in the works for the past 18 months and the band has put significant effort and contribution to make no compromises and include everything they wanted to have on the album. Once again, this is a theme album that this time digs into the fundamentals of humanity, nature and the universe, composed to create the feel of the topic of each song even if lyrics were ignored. Clocking nearly 60 minutes, this is a full-blown experience.
It is certainly notable that the band has, in addition to composing, arranging, writing lyrics and performing all tracks, also been responsible for mixing, mastering, album artwork, and music/lyric videos for all songs on the album. External production work has been limited solely to the recording and engineering of vocals.
The album also features magnificent guest performances: Päivi Karjala joins on duet vocals on two tracks (“Water” and “Storm”), and a 24-piece female barbershop choir adds its voice to “Fire (Tuli ja valo).” The album concludes with the 10-minute instrumental masterpiece “Nucleus,” which takes the listener on a surprising, unexpected, and compelling journey through soundscapes that perfectly wrap up the story.
Several singles have already been released with positive feedback. The latest single “Fire” was immediately featured on the weekly new releases program Levylautakunta on Finland’s national broadcasting radio channel YLE Suomi. One surprise element in this release is that the track is performed entirely in Finnish.
