Iconic Rock band The Who has announced the official release of “Live At The Oval 1971,” a previously unreleased live album capturing their legendary performance at the “Goodbye Summer: A Rock Concert” held on September 18, 1971, in aid of famine relief for the people of Bangladesh. The concert took place at The Oval cricket ground in Kennington, South London, before an audience of over 35,000 fans. This release coincides with the band’s final North American tour, aptly named “The Song Is Over,” which is set to commence on August 19, 2025, in Newark, New Jersey.

— A Historic Performance —

The 15-track setlist includes timeless classics such as “So Glad To See Ya,” “Summertime Blues,” “My Wife,” “Love Ain’t For Keeping,” “I Can’t Explain,” “Substitute,” “Bargain,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me / Listening To You,” “My Generation,” “Naked Eye,” and “Magic Bus.” Notably, five of these tracks are from their recently released album “Who’s Next,” which had debuted just a month earlier. The performance culminated in the band’s signature act of destruction, with Pete Townshend and Keith Moon famously smashing their instruments, a spectacle that has become emblematic of The Who‘s dynamic stage presence.

— Remixed from Original Tapes —

Live At The Oval 1971” has been newly mixed from the original 8-track analog multi-track tapes, recorded by Glyn Johns using the Pye Mobile Recording Unit. The mixing process was carried out by Bob Pridden and Richard Whittaker at The Bridge Studio in October and November of 2024, with mastering by Jon Astley and Layla Astley at Close To The Edge in November 2024. The album’s artwork features a cover illustration by Josh Townshend, Pete Townshend‘s nephew, and includes liner notes by Andy Neill.
