On their second album for Ripple Music, Lord Velvet descend deeper into the sounds that have always beat at their core: 70s Hard Rock, early Heavy Metal, proto-Doom and Heavy Psychedelia. “Wiccan Moon” is a collection of Occult tales — witches gathering beneath the moon, wolves answering something ancient in their blood, steel raised against tyrants — conjured through big riffs, cosmic textures, commanding vocals and heavy grooves. Recorded live with Collin Ingram at The Band Cave in Denver, mixed and mastered to tape by Pete de Boer at World Famous Studio, and wrapped in hand-drawn artwork by Daria Hlazatova, the album is a heavy, melody-driven record of fire, ritual, sacrifice and transformation.

About the title-track, they say: “Wiccan Moon started with its first moment. Before there was really a song, there was the idea of Taylor belting out “The Wiccan Moon” completely alone before the rest of the band came storming in. We loved the image and the drama of that opening, so the challenge became writing a song that could live up to it. Musically, we wanted a proper proto doom track. Something heavy and ominous, but still built around a groovy riffs and a classic song structure. Lyrically, the song is rooted in feminine power. A coven gathers beneath the moon and takes matters into its own hands, turning its power against corruption and those who have abused theirs. ‘The burden of the weak, the coward with the silver spoon, is severed by a ghastly tune’…“

Formed in Denver in 2022, Lord Velvet make what they call Rocky Mountain Rock and Roll, a Heavy blend of Psychedelic Rock, proto-Doom and early Heavy Metal shaped by the darkness, scale and strange beauty of the mountains around them. Featuring Taylor Webb on vocals, Bobby Scott on guitar, Jason Kleim on bass and Mike Barnes on drums, Lord Velvet look backward without living in the past. Their music draws from the era when the boundaries between Hard Rock, Psychedelia and Heavy Metal were still being written. The ominous weight of Black Sabbath, the mysticism of Rainbow, the grandeur of Deep Purple and the strange, untamed spirit of the Heavy seventies underground all help form the foundation.

The band emerged with “Astral Lady” in 2023 through Glory or Death Records, establishing a sound steeped in fuzz, melody and Cosmic Heaviness. With their second album “Wiccan Moon,” Lord Velvet enter the Ripple Music fold and turn deeper toward the Heavy Rock roots of seventies Metal, reshaping those influences into a modern proto-Doom and Heavy Metal record of their own.
