Reading, UK-based Folk Prog duo Whimsical Creature have unveiled the official video for their latest single “A Journey of Five Lifetimes” and opened pre-orders for their upcoming album “Wistful Thinking,” due out on August 15, 2025 on CD and digital formats.

— About their latest single “A Journey of Five Lifetimes” —
“A Journey of Five Lifetimes” is the new single from Folk/Prog duo Whimsical Creature, released on their Bandcamp page and with this beautiful music video.
The song tells the incredible story of the migration of the monarch butterfly across the USA. These beautiful creatures have such short lifespans that it takes them several generations to fly north from Mexico across the entire USA and settling at the start of the summer in Canada. Later in the year they fly south again and miraculously return to the exact same place their great, great, great grandparents began six months earlier, despite never having been there before.
Michael and Ella were inspired by reading an article in National Geographic magazine.
The song features Michael on piano, 12-string acoustic guitar, drum kit, bass guitar and vocals and Ella on flute, autoharp and vocals.

“Wistful Thinking” is a collection of songs written over nine months in 2024 & 2025 on a range of unusual themes. Michael said; “I try to write about subjects that nobody else is writing about.“
It’s a fully acoustic sound, using using only acoustic instruments. Whimsical Creature have gone for a much more folky approach. You won’t hear any Hammond organs, synths or electric guitars on this record.
What you will hear is lashings of jangly 12-string acoustic guitar, rhythmic piano, soaring flute melodies, shimmering autoharp and rich vocal harmonies.
