Italian Progressive Rock band Whimsical unveil the official video for the track “Flamboyant” taken from new album out via Luminol Records. Watch the video through the YouTube player below:
“Flamboyant” is a hymn to embrace oneself, to go beyond the boundaries that life often seems to put in us and to flare up. The title itself stands for flaming in a figurative sense. The intro, with its mysterious and orphic features, represents the moment in which the protagonist (who can be each of us) realizes what is the way to free himself and explode. Just then the song kicks off, with a massive seven-string guitar riff, bass and synth. The piece, however, does not yet turn to dark sounds, on the contrary: the stanzas advance with grooves, sinuous and a little cheeky, between quotations from Machiavelli and Freud. The chorus explodes and loudly declares who Whimsical are: captivating melody, three-part harmonization and instrumental thickness. The guitar and synth solos, along with a break and a nostalgic special complete “Flamboyant” which could very well serve as a song.
The band tells us:
“Flamboyant is the first track of Emissary, a six-piece album that after the first album Steamed Landscapes (2018) presents Whimsical to the wider audience. The whole album deals with the themes of these six boys of the 90s, who with power and eccentricity bring a fresh prog, driven by the voices of the two singers, representative of the prog band from Verona.“
Whimsical was born in late 2017 as a solo project by Enrico Marchiotto (Watershape, Andy Martongelli, Alchemy Victory, Dear Sasha, Dan Xikidi) focused on progressive rock, but declined towards instrumental music from a soundtrack. In 2018 “Steamed Landscapes” was released which means “steamed landscapes,” to indicate a range of landscapes subjected to the same processing procedure (the Prog), “cooked” in steam, to maintain their essence. In that year a band was formed under the banner of Whimsical to bring the songs of the cd live, seasoned with covers of Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater and Toto.
Between 2019 and 2020 the band performs various lives between Verona and Vicenza, taking the fold of the six-member formation and effectively losing the form of the solo project. In July 2021, Whimsicals participate in Shades of Prog, a Prog festival in Verona with Dark Ages and Dark Quarterer. In 2022 the band played with Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Virgil Donati, Stranger Visions, Panzerballet and many others.
