Aiwass is a Psychedelic Blues and Doom trio from USA who recently switched lineup, also releasing their debut album. Titled “Wayward Gods” it was released on November 05, 2021 and contains 5 long tracks ranging from 5 to over 11 minutes in length. The “Titan” opener opens with heavy guitar riffs and a massive rhythmic session, intertwining Doom and Stoner sounds and an enveloping vocal with dark overtones. A monolithic track that immediately plunges us into the atmosphere of the album, with changes that release all the power of the band. The second “From Chains” sees the participation as a guest of Vinny Taubner, and begins with a lysergic sound, which after two minutes increases in intensity and overwhelms us with granite riffs. The listener is now immersed in the sound of the band, which with the changes manages to dampen the tones and then release power, to emphasize the good solo that closes the song. “Man As God” was the first single from the album, which opens with the cry of the crows, while the music immediately starts loud, with the rhythmic session enriched by tempo changes. The intertwining between the guitar riffs and the bass lines are driving and a real power surge. The vocal has references to the 70s and to the progenitor bands of the genre, a finely worked track, very intense from beginning to end, when it closes with the cry of the crows. A fine intertwining between bass and guitar opens “Call of the Siren” and after a minute of introductory part it returns to the heavy sounds that distinguish the band. Granitic riffs and a solid rhythmic session, with more acid passages and alternating power surges, with that aura of mystery given by their characteristic vocal. The longest track of the album “Mythos” closes this debut, 11 minutes in which the guitar offers a really convincing test, between heavy riffs and solo inserts. In the central part, a less aggressive section offers cleaner guitar cues, and then returns to the central theme of the piece and closes. A very intense track that concludes with an edgy Fuzzy guitar solo extension. Lovers of Doom / Stoner sounds will find here a band that has clear ideas and a strong impact sound, heavy at the right point and with all the ingredients to impress the listener. A thick album, with solid drumming, leading bass lines and guitars that work the tracks to the right point. This band is sure to be talked about both today and in the future, it will also be interesting to listen to their live music to savor all the energy they have expressed here.
