[Review] Dialeto – Pandelirium

Dialeto is a Progressive Rock power trio from São Paulo, Brazil that has been active since the 1980s and has released five albums. Their new work “Pandelirium” was released on February 10, 2024 and contains five long tracks. The opener “The Long Way” is also the longest in duration, exceeding eight minutes. A deep bass line and guitar arpeggios intertwine, creating dark atmospheres and slowly immersing us in the album’s sounds. The elaborate drumming moves slowly, while the guitar offers prolonged solo work enriched by effects, and then develops into a sound of modern Prog steeped in Fusion and Heavy stretches. The guitar is the protagonist throughout, as well as the bass and drumming offer the possibility of developing a continuous musical crescendo that borders on Prog Metal. A technical and very intense track that enhances the trio’s compositional and performing technique. A deep bass line opens “The Great Geodesic Hall,” creating a dark atmosphere with the entry of keyboards and guitar. A track that for the most part is characterised by Experimental sounds, and then in the finale evolves into a complex Prog, steeped in Fusion and virtuoso textures, concluding in a musical crescendo. “The Long Way Back” opens with dilated atmospheric sounds that slowly immerse us towards the middle part of the track where the rhythm section and a scratchy, distorted guitar come in. The tempo changes are an added value to the song, as are the solo interludes that accompany us through these more than 8 minutes of virtuosity and duets that are very sophisticated and engaging. The intensity increases as the minutes go by, at times incorporating more heavy elements. Distorted guitars an elaborate rhythm section with a driving bass line open “Waiting for Numbers.” The song evolves on softer sounds with the lead guitar in evidence, then unleashes all the energy with more Rock and Heavy elements. The band evoleve the central theme of the song by enhancing their technique both compositional and executive, exploring softer and less experimental sounds, but still very elaborate and refined. The album ends with “Back Home,” which continues on the softer sounds of its predecessor and continues the musical discourse. The guitar is the protagonist with a prolonged and intense solo in the first part, with a deep, load-bearing bass line and solid, elaborate drumming. The track explores all facets of the band’s sound between more technical and more heavy moments, keeping the inetnsity very high and the listener always very involved. An album that confirms how this power trio offers a personal sound that is always very fresh and original, driven by guitar and with a solid, elaborate rhythm section. More virtuosic passages intertwine with atmospheric sounding openings, heavy elements merge with the band’s more refined classic Prog Rock. A recommended listen for lovers of the more technical sounds of Progressive Rock, with the guitar in evidence. A power trio that confirms the good things heard in their long career.
