Drive In Movie Band is a recently formed music collective from Delaware, USA. The debut album “Lines And Circles” was released on June 25, 2021 via Melodic Revolution Records and contains 6 tracks. The style of the band is a Progressive Rock with a Jazz and Fusion matrix, with a good use of intricate keyboards and textures, enriched by continuous tempo changes and phrasing between the various instruments. The album opens with “Two is Better Than One” featuring massive guitar riffs and solid drumming, with a harsher style in the sound. The guitar is in evidence with solo inserts, while the bass offers weight bearing and deep lines, in the final it concludes with a softer section. With a style closer to Fusion, “Sorry We’re Closed” offers an intertwining of electronic keyboards and elaborate melodies with an intricate rhythmic session. Enriched by a drum solo and by virtuosity that follow one another, it is an interesting and complex track, well composed and performed. We have come to the title track “Lines and Circles” which presents an intro with effects with a more Ambient style, and then develops a complex and intricate theme. With a large use of effects, the track mixes more Jazzy and Fusion features with Ambient electronics, creating a particular and original sound. “Lockups and Lockdowns” is a track with a tight rhythm, with an energetic and powerful sound, where the keyboards offer a prolonged solo. In the second part the flute is inserted that duets with the keyboards, while the rhythmic session continues urgent and fast, adding power to the piece. The shortest track of the album “Patent Pending” is in my opinion the most complex and Experimental, with a tight and elaborate drumming, developing constantly evolving textures. The intertwining between the keyboards and the guitar has avant-garde traits and the drumming almost touches Metal in terms of speed. The album ends with “China Rose” a track that offers more electronic sounds and enriched by effects, with an oriental flavor revisited in a modern key. Here too the band shows its more Experimental side, mixing different genres and styles with a personal touch. A complex album, with elaborate and sometimes intricate passages and textures, sometimes frenetic drumming and keyboard virtuosity. A band that loves to experiment and mix different genres and styles and they do it well. A listening recommended for lovers of more Jazz Prog sounds with forays into Fusion and a touch of Experimentation, an interesting debut.
