Fargo is an Instrumental Post-Rock band from Leipzig, Germany, formed in 2012 and has confirmed over the years that they have quality ideas and technique. The band’s new studio album “Geli” was released on March 17, 2023 via Kapitän Platte and contains four long tracks. Opener “Dresden” is energetic and focused on layering distorted guitar riffs and a granitic rhythm section. Alternating between harder passages and gentler openings with intertwining guitar arpeggios, the track shows the heavier side of the band’s sound. Powerful and energetic and at the same time intricate and enriched by an elaborate structure, it immediately immerses us in the band’s Post-Rock sound with Metal veins. “Regensburg” is a track with a more atmospheric imprint, with a prevalence of arpeggios and softer sounds and some forays into heavy rock. The guitar is the protagonist of elaborate twists and harmonies, while the rhythm section is solid and at times intricate, giving body to the track. With a continuous musical crescendo develops “Berlin,” characterised by an ambient-sounding first part, then steadily increasing in intensity. The guitar offers exquisite layering and heavy riffs, while the rhythm section consists of deep, load-bearing bass lines and granitic, powerful drumming. The song evolves, concluding with a second part that shows the band’s Post-Metal side, maintaining the elaborate imprinting that characterises the band’s style. The closing track “Pforzheim” is the shortest and heaviest of the disc, continuing to explore the Post-Metal sounds that characterised the previous one. Darker atmospheres permeate the track, developed with an energetic rhythm section and distorted guitars that weave and layer. In the finale, the sound becomes softer, maintaining a dark touch and inserting a spoken vocal that takes us to the end of the disc. An album that combines Post-Rock and Post-Metal, with fine guitar work and solid, elaborate rhythm sections. The tracklist consists of four long tracks, the full length of which is used to develop the themes with engaging and quality ideas and passages. A recommended listen for lovers of instrumental rock sounds, fresh and modern with a personal style.
