Bruno Karnel is a French multi-instrumentalist and singer who offers Prog sounds with modern and electronic influences, who in this new EP collaborated with Frédéric Gerchambeau. “N + 8” was released on June 04, 2022 and consists of 3 long tracks ranging from 9 to 10 minutes in duration. The opening track “Selinofilimeni” mixes hypnotic synth sounds with a French-style Folk style with intertwining arpeggios and a warm and expressive vocal. Polina Faustova participates in the song as a guest at the cello, while the sound develops by mixing traditional music with experimentation. An enveloping track especially in the central instrumental section, before returning to the vocal in the finale and closing. “Nachtseelen” focuses more on the modulations of keyboard sounds, with vocal parts that are always very intense and expressive. Experimentation is enhanced, with sounds enriched by a valuable use of effects, also showing an excellent understanding between the two artists. This long EP ends with “Nat og Dag” characterized by a greater space given to the guitar, intertwining with the modulations of the synth. Long instrumental textures with effects and an English vocal in the second part, with the intertwining of synth and guitar at the center of the stage. A listening focused on the experimentation and modulation of sounds, showing an excellent technique and refined ideas that mix with the more traditional traits of French music. The warm vocal parts marry best with the long instrumental textures that show how the two artists dialogue best with their instruments. A listening recommended for lovers of the experimental sounds of Prog, with forays into Folk music.
