Kalte Sonne is an instrumental Post-Rock/Metal trio formed in Lugo in 2013. The new album “Laniakea Communique” was released on March 01, 2024 and contains 4 tracks of over 6 to 18 minutes in length, with some guest appearances. The opener “P3X-7763” features Iván Ferro on guitar as a guest and is the shortest in duration, still exceeding six minutes. The track immediately plunges us into the album’s sounds and atmospheres with a granitic Post-Rock/Metal with the guitar as protagonist. The rhythm section is solid and elaborate, enriched by the tempo changes, developing interesting deep, load-bearing bass lines and refined drumming. Granitic drumming to which a killer bassline binds opens “Anarres,” guesting Abraham Cupeiro on Kwala and Zurna. The guitar offers solid riffs that intertwine with the guest melodies, in this instrumental with fine solo interventions that embellish the sound. With a more metal touch than the previous one, the track offers interesting Oriental and Atmospheric sounds. “SymetriadyW shows a more atmospheric imprinting than its predecessors, mixing Post-Rock and Metal sounds, without guesting and enhancing the trio’s compositional and performing technique. Dark guitar and bass riffs intertwine on solid drumming, developing a darker sound in a musical crescendo that culminates with double drumming and a more Metal sound. The epic track “Twory-F” concludes the album, an 18:18 minute suite that opens with sombre guitar riffs and a slow-moving rhythm section. The intensity increases as the minutes go by, enveloping the listener and accompanying them in the exploration of the different influences that characterise the band’s personal style. The guitar is the protagonist with well-constructed riffs and sophisticated solo interventions. The rhythm section is solid and elaborate, and the long minutes are used in their entirety to evolve the central theme of the piece, leaving us wanting to listen to this album again in the future. A good album that combines Post-Rock and Post-Metal sounds, with long instrumental tracks that enhance the trio’s compositional and performing technique. The two guests add musical solutions in the first two tracks, and then the band develops the last two tracks as a trio, including the final epic suite. A recommended listen for lovers of new Post-.Rock and Metal sounds, confirming the good things previously heard from this band.
