[Review] Wizurd Island – EP 2

Wizurd Island is a Doom Rock duo from Virginia, USA whose sound features influences from 70s Hard Rock and modern Stoner to Occult atmospheres. The second and new EP simply entitled “EP 2” was released on November 29, 2024 and contains three tracks between 3 and over 6 minutes long. The opener “Kneel” features distorted guitar riffs and solid drumming, while dynamic and expressive vocals interpret the lyrics. Interesting tempo changes shift the sound to softer, rockier territory, with hints of the 70s, with those rough guitar riffs taking us back to the past. In the finale, the band returns to a more heavy sound with the lead chitara playing a good insert. “Vampire Fire” is the album’s shortest track, with dark and restless atmospheres mixed with dirty, distorted riffs and an aggressive vocal. Doom sounds are mixed with heavy rock and garage, with that aggravation and rivalry typical of the genre. The longer track “I am the Night King” concludes the listening, offering a mixture of gloomy Doom Metal atmospheres and a Hard Rock touch. The vocal accompanies us through the track by incisively interpreting the lyrics, the guitar riffs are solid and well constructed and the rhythm section is enriched with tempo changes. In the seIn the secIn the secoIn the secondIn the second In the second part, the band offers a prolonged and refined instrumental section that accompanies us to the finale where the vocal returns and concludes. The band confirms the good things heard in their previous work, offering three granitic and incisive tracks that explore the influences that characterise their style. An interesting listen and recommended for lovers of the more Rock sounds of Doom with good gloomy atmospheric riffs and a touch of Hard Rock ‘70s.
