[Review] Kornmo – Vårjevndøgnsnatt

Kornmo is a Norwegian Symphonic Progressive Rock project, created in 2015 and transformed over time into an instrumental trio. The fourth and new album “Vårjevndøgnsnatt” was released on November 15, 2024 via Apollon Records and contains four epic suites between 15 and 20 minutes in length. The album unfolds through these four long, entirely instrumental tracks in which the band develops the themes of the songs with guitar and keyboard textures. Long instrumental sections with markedly Simphonic Prog traits, combining classical and modern sounds through these compositions with dreamy atmospheres. The rhythm section consists of elaborate drumming and intricate bass lines, enriched by the tempo changes that allow the songs to develop. An alternation of more modern sounds of keyboard and electric guitar alternate with Symphonic openings with acoustic guitar and Baroque atmsfere. Interweaving keyboards and guitar take center stage throughout the album, exploring different techniques and styles. A dynamic and incisive Progressive Rock, spanning the different influences that characterize the band’s style, with that Nordic imprint that characterizes Scandinavian bands. An album to be listened to while sitting comfortably and relaxing through the many ideas that weave along questra tracklist, in a quality Symphonic and Progressive journey. Over an hour of music that flows pleasantly, enveloping the listener in its more Symphonic oparti and increasing the intensity in the more intricate parts, always enhancing both the compositional and performing technique of the band. A recommended listen for lovers of instrumental Progressive Rock sounds, with phrasing between guitar and keyboards taking center stage and a rhythm section rich in tempo changes. an interesting journey through the band’s sonorities, confirming the good things heard in the previous albums.
