[Review] Mount Hush – II

Mount Hush is a band from Germany, whose individual performing credits are anonymous, that blend Heavy Psych with Stoner Rock and Blues. The new album “II” was released on November 09, 2024 and contains 8 tracks ranging from 3 to over 7 minutes in length. The opener “All I See” immediately plunges us into the album’s atmosphere, mixing Psychedelia and more modern Heavy sounds. Good guitar work and interlacing, the rhythm section is solid and driving, with the effects-enriched vocals enveloping the listener. A fresh and modern Desert Rock with a pleasant alternation of sung and instrumental parts with the guitar as the protagonist. Guitar arpeggios and dilated atmospheres characterise “Golden Sun,” with a slow-moving rhythm section and a sound steeped in Psychedelia. The vocals are warm and expressive and alternate well with the intense instrumental parts, with the guitar playing the lead role with an interesting solo cue in the second half. The bass line is deep and load-bearing, giving body to the song, which ends with an extended instrumental section. “The Hunt” opens with a pachydermic rhythm section and dilated sounds enriched by effects that envelop the listener and accompany him on this acid journey. The vocals are dynamic and very intense, creating refined refrains along with the music. In the second part the intensity increases and the band incorporates more Heavy elements to the sound, ending with an instrumental section and a very interesting musical crescendo. As the title, “Blues For The Dead,” recalls, the track incorporates Bluesy sounds into the sound, creating an intense and deep passage. A track laden with pathos, combining modern traits and its own personal sound with Bluesy sonorities with fine guitar work and a vocal that add value to the track. The album’s shortest track “Grey Smoke,” at 2:50 minutes in length, is a concentration of energy and well-constructed riffs. An accelerated rhythm section, frenetic riffs and an aggressive vocal, mixing Rock with a Punk attitude with their own interesting personal touch. A real burst of energy. “Celestial Eyes,” on the other hand, is the longest, clocking in at over seven minutes, starting off immediately with a Heavy sound and a granitic rhythm section. Well-constructed guitar riffs, solid and elaborate drumming and deep, load-bearing bass lines with well-constructed tempo changes enrich the rhythm section. The vocal returns to being soft and enveloping, while the band exploits the long duration of the song to explore the different facets that characterise their personal and original style in a musical crescendo with beautifully crafted guitar solo inserts. Another interweaving of Heavy sounds and psychedelic passages “54,” is an instrumental track with the guitar playing the lead role with heavy riffs and elaborate textures in the middle section. The rhythm section alternates between heavier and softer, more elaborate passages, allowing this interesting instrumental theme to develop. The album ends with “Blood Red Sky” with a heavy sound and dark atmosphere with melancholic vocals. Heavy guitar riffs and a hypnotic bassline with scratchy distorted guitar inserts accompany us through the track. A continuous musical crescendo that evolves the central theme of the track and concludes this interesting album. The band confirms the good things heard in the debut, offering a mixture of Heavy Rock and Psychedelia with some Blues passages, freshly modern and markedly personal. An interesting album from start to finish, the band skilfully creating an engaging tracklist. A recommended listen for lovers of modern Heavy Psych sounds with intense vocals well constructed riffs and a solid rhythm section.
