Laura Catrani is an Italian soprano who offers music for solo voice, thanks to a very rigorous study, technical ability and musical intuitions. The new album “Vox In Bestia” was released on May 12, 2022 via Stradivarius and contains the 3 songs of the Divine Comedy divided into Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso in 15 tracks. The soprano Laura Catrani presents in this sophisticated and complex work the three parts that make up Dante’s Divine Comedy through the voices and sounds of the animals that are part of it. At the beginning of the various parts that make up the three suites of hell, Purgatory and Paradise, short verses taken from the book of the great poet are often recited. The artist’s voice interprets the sounds that animals produce with passion and abundance of details, with some short inserts of sounds produced by the body such as the clapping of the hands. The refinement and accuracy of the album are the real added value to Laura‘s masterful voice, a soprano with her excellent talents. Accompanying us on this journey first in the circles of hell, then in purgatory to end up in heaven, she shows how the atmospheres and tones change according to the place and the animal represented. Sometimes real beasts, sometimes sweeter animals, with a superfine technique, making this work unique and original. Lovers of vocal sounds and experimentation with the voice itself will be positively impressed both for the drafting of the ‘tracks‘ and for their interpretation. An album that needs several plays to be able to grasp its true essence, revealing to us always new passages and ideas with each listening. I recommend this listening to all lovers of experimentation especially vocal, but also to those who love the sounds of bands like Magma will find interesting ideas and ideas. We know the book of the Divine Comedy never ceases to amaze, but in this album it is Laura who amaze, proposing an original work with a superfine technique. It is difficult to categorize this type of music in a musical vein, if not in Good Music, certainly a different and interesting listening for those who love to explore new horizons and break away from conventional sounds.
