The Stoner/Doom one-man project from Indonesia Mud Spencer published a good full-length in February 2022, already reviewed in our pages. On August 12, 2022 a new EP “In Mud We Trust” was released containing 5 tracks of medium length, continuing the musical discourse undertaken in the previous disc. The opener “In The Mud For Love” starts with a fuzzed guitar, a solid rhythm session and a granite sound with good modulation of the sounds. The artist’s Stoner/Doom sounds are emphasized by the distorted riffs and the use of distortions, while the track evolves by layering the sounds, and a good solo closes the track. A good retro imprinted guitar riff characterizes “Larry White 96” with an energetic rhythm and deep, leading bass lines. More rhythmic than the previous one and with the addition of the organ, the track is enriched with tempo changes, accelerating and proposing a more Rocky late 60s facet of the artist’s sound. Interesting changes and variations on the central theme of the song, combining Stoner and Psychedelic Rock with a modern touch, an engaging track. “Mud City 1” is a track where the effects characterize the sounds of the guitar, while the rhythm session is solid with a killer bassline. More Heavy Rock, with a retro imprint and a marked personal touch, it reminds us of the bands of the genre of the late 60s. Enriched by tempo changes and guitar weaves, it also offers interesting solo inserts. The shorter track of the album “Don’t Let Me Dry” starts with a tight and accelerated rhythm session on which good guitar works are inserted. With continuous changes of tempo and the guitar at the center of the scene between well-stroked riffs and fuzzed inserts, at times it has a dark touch. Between excellent and successful modulations is another engaging and well developed track. The EP ends with “Mudvisor” which returns to the more Stoner and Doom sounds of the opener, with distorted guitar riffs and a slower but granite rhythm session. Good developments of the guitar textures with a valuable use of modulations and effects, with also good ideas, well composed and executed. A good EP for lovers of Stoner and Doom sounds, with in the central part two racce closer to Psychedelia and Rock of the late 60s. The artist has a good technique for all instruments, with the guitar always at the center of the scene between riffs and inserts and sound modulations. The rhythm session is solid with load-bearing bass lines that give body to the sound.
