Optical Sun is a Polish Doom Metal band with Psychedelic Rock and Sludge influences that have released an EP and a full-length. Their debut album “Save Our Souls” was released on July 3, 2021 on Via Nocturna Records and contains 6 tracks ranging between 4 and 8 minutes. The album opens with “SOS / Save Our Souls” characterized right from the start by a solid rhythmic session and rock guitar riffs. The guitar weaves create dark melodies and the spoken vocal adds a halo of mystery to the song, enriched by continuous tempo changes. The guitar is at the center of the project, with clear Doom riffs, successful and engaging and the sound is heavy and well structured. “VI” starts with a killer bass line, while the drumming is tight and energetic with the usual guitar riffs at times very heavy and dark. A concentrate of power that at times slows down and then returns to accelerate with bursts of Doom more Metal than Rock, with a spoken vocal that is inserted. The lead lead of the guitar is good and the song is smooth, thanks also to the prolonged lead lead by the guitar, while in the finale a powerful vocal closes the piece. Follows “Płonąca Planeta” has a much darker atmosphere than the previous ones, the rhythmic session is heavy and pachydermic and increases in intensity with the passage of the piece. With influences closer to Sludge and a powerful vocal, this song brings out all the energy of the band. Closer to modern Psychedelic Rock “Lemon Haze” is a tight track, with hypnotic, driving bass and biting guitar riffs. Entirely instrumental and highly engaging, it shows a more Rock side of the band, adept at exploring various genres and styles and blending them with your own personal touch. A slow paced rhythmic session and a deep bass open “Zaczarowany Las” with melancholic guitar arpeggios and a background with layered vocal effects. In the second part the intensity increases and the song releases power with mammoth guitar riffs and a drumming that accelerates, closing the track with a musical crescendo. “Kobiety Grzebiące Umarłych” opens with a dark guitar that layers and the track kicks off slowly with very percussive drumming. The singing is violent, and the piece closes the disc with energy, with a surprise ending made with an acoustic arpeggio after a short silence pause. The band confirms what they heard in the previous EP, clear ideas and a powerful sound, with granite guitar riffs and a solid rhythm session with quality tempo changes. Lovers of the harder sounds of Doom will find here a good listening, intense and full of energy. This band will be talking about itself both now and in the future within the Doom genre, having a personal and solid sound, well composed and performed.
