[Review] Orchestre Celesti – Anarchy

Orchestre Celesti is the creative moniker of composer and keyboardist Federico Fantacone. The project was born in 2006 and is a blend of Rock Progressivo Italiano, 70s English sounds and electronic features, with the artist composing and playing all the parts of all the instruments. The new album “Anarchy” was released on March 01, 2022 and contains 12 tracks ranging from 2 to over 9 minutes in length. The album opens with “Hammers, pt.1” a track mainly close to experimentation, with dilated sounds and Ambient features, with keyboards enriched by a wide use of effects. The second part “Hammers, pt. 2” develops the Ambient sounds of the previous one with the addition of a rhythmic session full of tempo changes. An intertwining of keyboards and winds, always on a style closer to the avant-garde of Prog, intricate textures and sounds mixed with the effects. “ImpressionistiX” is characterized by a first part with Ambient sounds that characterize a long intro, and then develops an intricate rhythmic session and frenetic sounds. The keyboards are at the center of the scene and the piece mixes more electronic features with other more Jazzy and Prog, creating an interesting whole that enhances the artist’s technique in solos. With more jazzy features and with the piano in evidence “Weaponization” has some richaimi to the Canterbury scene, and presents an excellent combination of modern and retro. The accelerations on the drum and the electronic keyboard sounds show the modern influences of the artist. The longest track on the “Chiaroscuri” album is over 9 minutes and is the essence of the artist’s blend of modern and electronic sounds with other old school ones. The electronic and constantly evolving rhythm session mixes with keyboards and winds, a modern track closer to electronic music. “Streichfett” is permeated by the pompous sounds of the synth and a powerful drumming, the references to Cosmic music are evident and well interpreted by mixing the personal traits of the artist. Tracing the sounds of the previous “Intro to Phantom of the Opera,” it is a track with sounds reminiscent of German Cosmic music. Skilled the artist to add a personal touch with the wind samples and with his trademark to the keyboards. “Disorder” opens with a repeated and hypnotic bassline on keyboards, with sounds that are reminiscent of late 70s electronics. Interesting is the addition of wind instruments and the continuous tempo changes that cross over into Prog with the most extreme Jazz traits and into Canterbury, always with an electronic touch. A frenetic rhythm and intricate melodies characterize “We Are Not Who We Are” with markedly Jazz features, with a touch of experimentation. A short track but full of intensity, full of tempo changes and avant-garde atmospheres with fine intertwining keyboards. As the title describes “Piano imPRO-1” is a piano improvisation that combines dreamy and delicate traits with other more Jazz, showing a superfine technique to the instrument. “[to be continued]” is the shortest track on the album, a concentrate of experimental sounds and textures with keyboards in evidence. The album closes with “Take a knee (afterward)” featuring Canterburyian brass inserts and keyboards with an intricate rhythmic session. A good sound ensemble that closes this pleasant work with technique. An album that mixes Canterbury features with Electronic and Prog sounds, showing the artist’s good technique and keyboards and electronic instruments. An interesting album, which combines the tradition of Prog with modern and innovative sounds, with marked Jazz and Avant-Garde traits. A listening recommended for lovers of avant-garde sounds of Prog, a modern reinterpretation of the sounds of Canterbury with a touch of Cosmic music.
