Origin Pulse is a French project born in 2018 that offers a mix of Progressive Rock and Metal sounds with forays into Jazz and Funk. The debut EP “Near Death Experience” was released on April 07, 2022 and contains a long-running 3-track split suite. The first part “NDE part 1 – Fall” opens the album with an intertwining of hard guitar riffs that intertwine with the keys, a massive rhythm session enriched by tempo changes. The guitar offers a long solo cue in the first part, and then in the central part it leaves room for a change that transforms the piece with more symphonic features. A sudden acceleration brings the sound back to a more Metal sound in the second part with a fine intertwining of bass and guitar and a solo keyboard insert in the final. The second track “NDE part 2 – Sanctuary – 3 – Moment of Clarity 2” is the longest of the EP and contains the second and third part of the suite. In the intro guitar and bass intertwine, and then evolve with a Jazz and Funky touch, elaborate and softer than the previous one, this first part shows a more delicate facet of the band’s sound. The guitar offers interesting solo inserts, while in the central part it increases the intensity, bringing the sound to a more Heavy style. The riffs become heavier and the rhythmic session tighter, combining Prog Metal traits and technical passages with a good mix between guitar and keyboards. The suite and album conclude with the fourth part “NDE part 4 – New Horizon” which continues on the more Metal sounds of the band with massive guitar riffs and good keyboard textures. Between continuous changes of tempo, passing from more symphonic to accelerated sections typical of Prog Metal, the song shows how the band has technique offering refined passages with virtuous solos. An interesting EP that offers predominantly Prog Metal sounds with forays into Symphonic, good intertwining between guitar and keyboards and a solid rhythmic session. Full of tempo changes, the band’s sound is refined and this project shows that it has technique both in the compositional and in the executive phase. It will be interesting to hear a full-length from these artists, who with this EP showed good ideas and a solid sound.
