Scott Reed is a guitar virtuoso based in South Australia. In his albums he deals with the composition and execution of all the instruments, except for the keyboards to which Derek Shrerinian collaborated. The new album “Regenesis” was released on April 15, 2022 and contains 8 long-running tracks, in which he proposes virtuous duets with Derek, continuing the musical discourse undertaken in the previous work. The album opens with a short introductory track “The Curtain Falls” with an intertwining of electronic keyboard and guitar sounds that accompanies the following. “Regeneration” is characterized by a tight rhythmic session, on which the two artists create Heavy guitar riffs to which the keyboards are intertwined. Fast and virtuous solos that see the guitar first and keyboards in the second part, keeping the drumming always accelerated. An album focused on virtuosity and duets between guitar and keyboards with accelerated rhythms and Prog Metal imprinting enriched by tempo changes. The guitar offers heavy and successful riffs and refined solo passages, enhancing Scott’s technique, while Derek, as we well know, confirms what has been expressed over the years in various projects and in his solo records. The two artists show an excellent understanding, making the instruments dialogue creating intense and very technical passages. An album markedly Prog Metal with cinematic overtones and the two artists who enjoy shredding. An album that in the first tracks offers more Metal sounds, with fast rhythms, heavy riffs creating a heavier sound, while in the second part the tracks have an increasingly hard but more Symphonic character. Excellent phrasing between guitar and keyboard, which are the trademark of the album, while Scott shows a good technique also to the other instruments, with a solid and elaborate drumming. A listening recommended for lovers of the virtuous and shred sounds of Progressive Metal, where two artists enhance their technique with high-level plots and duets. Entirely instrumental, it is a well composed and perfectly executed album, continuing and evolving the musical discourse undertaken in the previous album. These two artists are confirmed to be among the best exponents of the harshest sounds of modern Prog.
