[Review] Tet – Tet

Poland proves to be a good breeding ground for Underground artists in the field of Rock and beyond, and the Heavy Psych and Krautrock band Tet confirms this. Their self-titled debut album is over 45 minutes in length spread over four tracks with lyrics in their native language. The opener “Srebro I Antracyt” is also the longest in duration, exceeding 12 minutes, a track that immediately immerses us in the mixture of sounds that characterise the band’s style. Rich guitar textures that combine 70s Psychedelia and modern traits, an elaborate rhythm section full of tempo changes, allowing the band to develop complex textures. The vocals are enriched with effects and are dynamic and expressive, befitting the band’s style. The long instrumental plots explore different facets and genres, alternating between more heavy passages and others with dilated and psychedelic sounds, with the guitar playing the lead role in solo inserts and layered melodies. A sombre guitar arpeggio opens “Dom W Cieniu Gruszy,” and then with the entry of all the instruments a heavy psych theme develops with good lead guitar work. The choral vocal parts add a retro touch to the sound, definitely heavier than the previous one and with scratchy guitar work that takes us back to the golden years of Rock. The rhythm section is granitic, with a deep, load-bearing bass line that gives body to the sound. Between tempo changes and interesting developments of the central theme, the song envelops the listener throughout its duration, offering Psychedelic cues and long instrumental textures. “Wiosna” is a song that from the first notes is reminiscent of the Rock music of the Eastern European bands of the 1970s. The guitar riffs alternate between heavy and darker moments and openings with more psychedelic and dilated-sounding work. From the middle part comes a prolonged instrumental section that accompanies us to the finale for several minutes, exploring the different facets that characterise the band’s sound, alternating between more Stoner and more Heavy Psych sections. The tracklist ends with “Włóczykije,” the shortest in duration, still exceeding 10 minutes. An atmospheric intro enriched by sound modulations slowly immerses us into the lysergic textures of the track. The rhythm section enters towards the middle of the track, pachydermic and granitic, evolving along with the track’s central theme. Throughout, the guitar offers interweaving, layering and solo inserts with distinctly psychedelic traits and good textures and ideas. A good debut for this Polish band that succeeds in bringing classic Psychedelia sounds into a modern context, in line with today’s releases in the genre. Between heavy Psych, Stoner and more retro passages, with the guitar as the protagonist, solid rhythm sections and dim and enveloping vocals. A recommended listen for all lovers of new trends in Psychedelic music, with long tracks and instrumental sections full of interesting cues.
