Danish trio Trippelgänger continue their exploration of heavy sounds between Psychedelia, Stoner and Doom by releasing their new EP “Third Trip.” Released on September 11, 2022, it contains three tracks between 2:30 and over 5 minutes in length, evolving the musical discourse undertaken in the previous ones. Doom-heavy guitar riffs open “Virology” with a granitic and powerful rhythm section. The vocals add a Dark touch to the sound, which combines Heavy Metal and Doom traits mixing retro atmospheres with their own personal and modern touch. The rhythm section moves slowly, elaborating on the well-constructed guitar riffs. “Ride” is the album’s shortest track, with an accelerated rhythm that combines the scratchy guitar riffs with reminiscences of bands like Motorhead. The vocals are filthy, while the track slows down in the middle part, taking the sound into more doom territory, only to accelerate again and close. The closing “Doomsday Clock” is the longest in duration, exceeding five minutes. The atmospheres are dark and after an introductory part the track develops with heavy guitar riffs and a solid rhythm section. The sounds are Doom Metal, the vocals powerful and penetrating, adding an occult touch to the track, enriched by tempo changes that combine heavy Metal and Doom with a mature and engaging songwriting. An EP that confirms the good things heard in the previous chapters, the matrix is Doom with forays into Metal and the band’s personal touch that characterises their style. The guitar and riffs are well constructed, the rhythm section granitic and enriched by the tempo changes, making this an interesting listen for all lovers of both modern and retro Doom sounds.
