Venus Loon is a project created by Peter Lwson originally from Manchester, multi-instrumentalist and has been a member of numerous bands. The new album “Adios Vegas” was released on December 20, 2021 via the Aumega Project label and contains 7 tracks ranging from 3 to over 7 minutes in length. The proposed genre is a blend of Psychedelic Rock, Prog and Space Rock, which continues the musical discourse undertaken over the years by the artist. The album opens with the title track “Adios Vegas” which is the longest, exceeding 7 minutes in duration. A keyboard background with dark features on which a linear and slow rhythmic session is soon inserted, with the artist immediately offering a prolonged guitar solo enriched by effects. In the central part he inserts a spoken robotic vocal, and between heavier passages and other more ambient ones that intertwine the track leads us towards the finale. a dreamy guitar arpeggio opens “Marianne Still Dreams” which develops with the sounds of guitar and keyboard that are stratified and the drum programminhg to mark the times. In the central section the guitar offers a prolonged solo that accompanies us up to the final, resulting in the sound component of the best track. In my humble opinion the rhythmic session is not very effective and the programming has too flat and muffled sounds. Follows “Darwin’s Bug” characterized by a drumming in loop, while the guitar is edgy and electric sound, like the rest of the song. Of a more experimental matrix, it combines Space Rock, distorted guitars and effects creating a hypnotic effect. A deep bass and layers of electric guitar open “Los Alamos Grind” with a slower rhythm and Ambient inserts with dilated sounds and a female spoken vocal. A track that develops on long guitar textures that intertwine, enriched by the effects. “Voice of the People” presents a more linear structure of the rhythm session, the synth in the background and the guitar free to express itself and at the center of the stage. Here too the atmospheres are dark, with inserts of voices full of echo and in the final interlacing of guitar and synths close the song. Tracing the sounds of the previous song “Forever Gone” always proposes a more lyrical rhythm session, a bit static in my opinion, with the guitar as protagonist for the whole duration with long solo and arpeggiated textures. Closes the disc “Escaping” which opens with a pompous synth, to which are added the drum programming and the guitar, creating a song with more dreamy features. Always with long guitar solo plots, this last track is the most intense and full of pathos, the best of the album. The artist plays all the instruments and creates an album entirely that mixes Space Rock sounds with some personal traits including drum programming. Particularly this choice, in my humble opinion with an acoustic drum this type of music would have had a greater yield. With some good ideas and some more intense passages, in others it is not very effective, but this is my humble opinion.
