[Review] Weaving Spiders – For Those Who Linger EP

Weaving Spiders is a trio originally from Kentucky, USA with former members of: Old Vikings, Nixon, Bearhammer, Batwizard, Comess. The new EP “For Those Who Linger” was released on February 08, 2024 and contains 3 tracks ranging from 4 to over 5 minutes in length. The opener “To Avenge, To Embrace” is the shortest and immediately immerses us in the band’s heavy sound, mixing stoner and doom with solid drumming and a deep, penetrating bass line that gives body to the sound. The guitar offers Heavy riffs and intense solo interventions in this energetic and darkly atmospheric instrumental track. Continuing on heavy sounds, “The Shadows Wait” features an intense vocal that adds a dark touch to the sound. Between Doom, Stoner Metal, with gritty riffs and another killer bassline the track flows exploring the different facets of the band’s sound. The drumming is solid and enriched with some tempo changes, while the guitar offers distorted and scratchy solo inserts. The EP’s longest track “The Furies” concludes the listening. A distorted, sombre guitar riff opens the track, then develops into a pachydermic doom with modern traits, whose rhythm section moves slowly. Between Sludge and Doom, heavy and enveloping sounds, as well as the vocal that gives a solemn and dark touch to the track. The second half evolves with forays into the heaviest and most acidic Psychedelia. An album that combines Doom, and Stoner in its heavier, darker versions. The guitar takes centre stage, while the rhythm section is solid with load-bearing bass lines. The vocals are dark and at times gloomy. A recommended listen for lovers of the darker side of modern Doom and Stoner, with personal traits that fit well into today’s musical landscape.
