Tetrasun is a Finnish trio offering guitar driven Psychedelic Rock with Prog traits active since 2020. They have released 2 full-lengths, the latest of which “Creation” was released on February 22, 2022 and contains 8 tracks. The album opens with “Arm’s Length” a track that begins with rhythmic drumming and scratchy guitar riffs, immediately immersing us in the atmosphere of their sound. The guitar is the protagonist of the scene, while the rhythm session is constantly evolving with changes in tempo. The second “Message Seen” is an electric guitar solo with 57 second effects. A deep bass line opens “Expanse” an entirely instrumental track that revolves around a prolonged guitar solo. With an energetic drumming and guitar riffs begins “Fire In a Mad House” which alternates a vocal at times solo and in others choral. The guitar in addition to being at the center of the scene, overwhelms the other instruments in volume in my opinion with excessive distortion. “Moving Through” is another short-lived piece, with a dark atmosphere and vocal, chaotic rhythm and a distorted guitar. Continuing with a dark atmosphere “Burial” is a track enriched by tempo changes, even if the sound ensemble always seems a bit chaotic to me in my humble opinion. The guitar offers a solo in the final part, the best moment of the song. “Aetherfall” has a gloomy atmosphere, with a disturbing vocal and sometimes scratchy guitar interlacing. In the central part there is an instrumental section that extends to the end of the piece that closes with the last verse. Distorted guitar textures open “The City” which develops with a sound that mixes more delicate strokes and a scratchy guitar with a melancholy vocal. Even here, in my humble opinion, the sound is a bit chaotic and does not make the most of the ideas proposed. An album that at times offers interesting ideas, but which in my opinion are developed in a somewhat chaotic way, with the sound of the guitar being intrusive. More linked to PSychedelia than to Prog, and focused on the guitar, with some tricks the sound could be more amalgamated and incisive, enhancing the positive aspects that can only be heard in flashes.
