Lords Of Form is a project born from an idea of Niall Hone, member of the legendary Hawkwind since 2008 with whom he mainly plays bass. Active since the end of the 80s with different bands and electronic music projects, in 2020 and 2021 he released two EPs with this new band. On February 11, 2022 “Flying Chromium Society” was released containing 10 tracks of pure Space Rock. The opening track “Your Last Call” characterized by a cosmic sound with intertwining electronic keyboards enriched by effects. The following “It’s Revolution Time” opens with an intertwining of keyboards with electronic features and distorted guitar riffs, to develop with a tight rhythmic session. The vocal is energetic, like the sound of the track, with deep bass lines and gentle intertwining keyboards and a tight rhythm. “Low Orbit” is a short interlude characterized by an intertwining of electronic sounds that remind us of deep space. An intro with a markedly cosmic electronic sound opens “A Winters Bride” to which an effected and enveloping vocal is added. The piano is intertwined with the keyboards and at the beginning of the second part a tight rhythmic session enters, and then returns to the sounds with only voice and keyboards, an intense track. From the heavier and more psychedelic traits “Tribes Collide” is characterized by a solid rhythmic session with hypnotic bass lines and massive guitar riffs. The keyboards are inserted giving that Space touch to the sound, where a dynamic and energetic vocal alternates with the instrumental sections. A track that shows the harder side of the sound of this project, with interesting instrumental phrasing and an intense vocal. The longest track on the album “Little Victories,” which runs at 7 minutes, is a blend of electronic sounds, Space and Cosmic traits with an aggressive vocal. The rhythm is halfway between electronic and rock with a powerful drumming, a track with a modern sound. In the second part it evolves with more traditional Space sounds and a wide use of effects, used with technique and quality. The hypnotic and enveloping keyboards permeate “Anomalies” with an electronic drumming and effected vocal inserts. Of a more modern and markedly electronic matrix, he manages to combine traditional and modern sounds, combining the sounds of the 70s Cosmic to his productions closest to Dance. The title track “Flying Chromium Society” is another 7 minutes track, with a long intro that takes us to travel the cosmos with intertwining keyboards and effects. With the entry of the rhythm session and the guitar it evolves on more traditional Space Rock sounds with fine workmanship solo inserts. Enriched by the skilful use of effects and modulations, the track closes with the keyboards at the center of the scene. “This Dying World” is characterized by a heavy sound and dark atmospheres, with an effected vocal. A blend of hard rock and space rock with a modern sound, heavy guitars and dark keyboards. The album ends with “The Electric White Highway” with positive melodies, very rhythmic and mixing Rock and Space features with engaging guitar riffs. The drumming is tight and the vocals are engaging, pleasantly closing this good album. Space Rock in its purest form, offering 10 tracks that explore the whole world of this genre, from traditional to modern electronic. By alternating more energetic tracks with others that are softer and have expanded sounds, this listening takes us with the mind in the deepest space. A listening recommended for lovers of Space Rock sounds, a good listening from start to finish, enhancing the technique of the artists involved.
