We are pleased to offer you an interview with an Italian composer and multi-instrumentalist: Matteo Zanforlin. With his project Black Kalmar Skull he released on July 10, 2022 his new album “The Magic Of Life” in which he took care of all the phases from composition to production.
> Hi how are you?
Hi, Fine thanks
> Your sound combines several styles and genres related to Prog, how did your passion for this genre born?
I was introduced to Genesis, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Mike Odlfied as soon as I was 2-3 years old, they are still my favourite Artists. The first CD I bought I was 7 and it was “A trick of the tail” by Genesis, still my favourite Album of all and it gave me the idea of how my ideal music Is.
> You are a composer and a multi-instrumentalist and you started the one-man band Black Kalmar Skull, how did the idea for this project come about?
Initially it was a live band playing totally different genre but after several line changes I decided to do on my own and started recording myself my own songs.
> Your new album “The Magic Of Life” was released on July 10, 2022, how would you describe this work?
It’s very important to me, I’m satisfied especially about the composition, I felt complety free to express myself.
> More elaborate passages and others more melodic and sung, what themes do the lyrics deal with?
Lyrics have mostly a hidden meaning. I talk about Life and things related, the meanings behind things we do, we think, we say.
> Since yours is a solo project, will there be the possibility to listen to your music live?
I hope so, but now I don’t have live members to put a live show.
> Your project was born in 2015, how has your sound evolved since then?
It evolved a lot, First Albums are mostly melodic Extreme Metal with growl vocals and kind of post rock instrumentals with touches of prog rock. But it evolved all naturally and that’s the important thing in Music I think.
> Music has changed over the years, how do you see the prog genre in the future?
I think progressive rock with an authentic meaning and not just technical things that is end to itself, is the future for a good Music Revolution. Meanstream “Music” now Is literally mostly shit and a negation itself for what music means.
> What advice would you give to young artists who approach music by offering more elaborate and Progressive sounds?
They should not force their style, if they have something to say it will come naturally from their hearts through their instruments.
