Gayle Ellett & The Electromags is an American instrumental Rock trio focused on the guitar, made up of experienced musicians from the musical circle. The album “Shiny Side Up” was released on June 10, 2022 via PeacockSunrise Records and contains 11 medium length tracks. The trio consists of Gayle Ellett and Mark Cook both bandmates in Herd of Instinct and Spoke of Shadows respectively on guitar and keyboards and on bass, Craig Kahn on percussion. Gayle Ellett, soloist of the group, re-proposes in a personal key and with personal traits the sounds of Djam Karet with different characteristics given by different performers. The album is entirely instrumental and focused on the solo parts of the guitar, with a solid rhythmic session, enhancing the technique of the musicians involved. Long-lasting solos are the cornerstone of the album, without exceeding in virtuosity for their own sake, but showing a good mix of instruments that communicate best. Difficult to categorize only this disc in a genre, as the tracks are attributable to Rock with forays into Prog, where the main component the guitar takes the stage. Despite the long solo textures, the sounds are not too intricate but accessible and flowing, making the album enjoyable. A listening certainly appreciated by all lovers of Rock sounds focused on the guitar, where the trio shows their technique in their respective instruments, creating elaborate but not too complex tracks.
