We are pleased to offer you in this article an interview with a Portuguese band that offers Prog sounds contaminated by Heavy and Metal traits, whose new single “Your Guide” was released on May 12, 2023. We welcome Phase Tranistion.
Hi, how are you?
Hey! Really good! Btw, this is Fernando Maia, the drummer!
The genre you propose is a Progressive Metal with different contaminations and a modern touch, where does your passion for these sounds come from?
We’re constantly seeking out new musical experiences and experimenting with different genres. Progressive metal provides the perfect platform for us to incorporate various musical influences and blend them together. Our passion for these sounds comes from a desire to create something unique and captivating for our listeners.
Your new single “Your Guide” was released on May 12, 2023, how would you describe this track?
By streamlining our composition process, we were able to distill our progressive metal sound into a concise and impactful track. While we usually explore intricate and complex arrangements, “Your Guide” allowed us to showcase our versatility and ability to make a strong impact within a shorter duration.
A well composed and executed track with a lot of variations, have you planned a full-lenght in the near future?
Yes, we are thrilled by the positive response to “Your Guide” and appreciate the recognition! We are excited to share that we do indeed have plans for a full-length album in the near future. Aiming to further explore our progressive metal sound, the album will provide us with the opportunity to delve deeper into our musical ideas and showcase a wider range of our creative capabilities. While we are in the early stages of development and don’t have a specific release date yet, we are fully committed to delivering a cohesive and immersive experience that pushes the boundaries of the genre. Stay tuned for updates on our progress and exciting announcements regarding the upcoming full-length release!
Your music is full of tempo changes and guitar textures, how is the composition of the songs done?
Our approach to song composition involves various methods, and one of our primary tools is working online using a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and a platform called Git. This enables us to collaborate seamlessly, even when we’re physically apart. We each work on our parts offline and then come together online to discuss and refine our ideas. However, for the composition of “Your Guide” we took a slightly different approach. Luís and I embarked on a week-long bootcamp where we worked closely together to create the entire structure of the song. Once the instrumental foundation was established, Sofia then added her incredible vocals to bring the track to life. This collaborative process allows us to leverage each member’s unique strengths and ideas.
Many of your fans and readers are wondering if there will be a chance to hear your music live, do you have any plans for that?
Yes, absolutely! We are thrilled to share that we have plans to perform our music live for our fans. In fact, we have an exciting announcement to make. We will be presenting “Your Guide” live at an upcoming festival in Vizela, located in the beautiful north of Portugal. While we can’t reveal all the details just yet, we can assure you that the festival announcement will be made very soon. We are eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to connect with our audience and bring the energy and passion of our music to the stage. Stay tuned for the official announcement and join us for an unforgettable live experience!
The music market has changed a lot in recent years, how difficult is it to establish yourself with a more sought-after musical genre like yours?
We are well aware that our chosen genre, particularly in Portugal, is not as widely recognized or popular compared to some other musical styles. However, we embrace the challenge of establishing ourselves in a more sought-after and unique genre. We understand that introducing something new and unfamiliar can sometimes be met with resistance or difficulties in gaining traction. Nevertheless, our passion for creating music that pushes boundaries and explores new territories drives us forward. We are committed to persevering, staying true to our artistic vision, and continuing to produce the music we love. Ultimately, we believe that by staying dedicated to our craft and consistently delivering high-quality and innovative music, we can carve out our own path and find our place within the evolving music market.
What advice would you give to a young band like you, approaching the modern music scene by offering Progressive sounds?
Embrace exploration and innovation. Push boundaries and bring something new to the table. The modern music scene needs artists who are fearless and willing to take risks.
Music and Prog in particular are constantly evolving, how do you see the future of your genre?
We see a bright future for the progressive music genre. Its inherently forward-thinking nature allows for constant evolution and innovation. As technology advances and musicians continue to push boundaries, we anticipate even more exciting and diverse sounds emerging within the genre. With its ability to blend various musical styles and experiment with complex compositions, progressive music will continue to captivate listeners and inspire new generations of musicians. We are excited to be part of this evolution and look forward to contributing to the future of progressive music.
