Dear readers, in this article we have the pleasure of offering you an interview with a Spanish trio with Post-Rock and Post-Metal sounds. We welcome Kalte Sonne.
Hi, welcome to our pages, how are you?
“Very well thank you. Delighted that you leave us a space on your website and your readers for giving us a few minutes.“
The band has been active since 2013, how did the project and the choice of the name Kalte Sonne come about?
“We all come from previous projects in which we were already part of one way or another and we know each other from the local scene. Javier, our first guitarist, came with the idea of putting together a project that was a little different from what we were used to playing at that time, more atmospheric and less hardcore, we were intrigued by the idea and we started putting ideas together. The name of the band arose at that time, we considered several names and Kalte Sonne (cold sun in German) was the one that seemed to us best to fit the line that the band was taking.“
You play Post-Rock and Metal, how did your passion for these sounds come about?
“As we told you, we come from the metal scene from an early age. Young people curious to go one step further in speed, aggressiveness, darknessā¦ Always in search of something more, after the years we imagine that in a certain way, we tended to look elsewhere in search of something else that satisfied us. Doom, Sludge, Stoner andā¦ the sequence continues.“
The new album “Laniakea Communique” was released in March 2024, how would you describe this work?
“Although it sounds clichĆ©, We think it is the best thing we have composed. You may like it or not. Due to Covid, it is the album on which we have dedicated the most hours and we believe that it represents a good step in the evolution of the band, since the first EP: “The Hum”, “Searching the new Word”, “Ekumen” and ” Mareira.” We think that in this “Laniakea
Communique” you can find passages from all our previous works but taken a little step further.“
Four long instrumental tracks, how does the creative process of your music take place?
“We imagine not very different from the rest of the bands. For this last album, Victor came with a completely finished song, although the vast majority usually comes from improvisations or jams in the rehearsal room, ideas that we keep and review in the future. Also sometimes we bring an idea from home and work on it, sometimes it is retouched and you wouldn’t even recognize what arrived and in other cases, the few, it is quite similar. Then we try to connect them and create the small universe in which we can thenadd the “stories” and create the concept that we want to give to the album.
About the length of the songs, we usually don’t worry and we continue until we are satisfied. We only worry when we have to think about whether or not it will fit on vinyl.“
Two guests participate in the album, what did they bring to the sound of the record?
“When we thought about a collaboration, we knew that we wanted to give total freedom to whoever participated and added their personal point of view to our music. In the case of IvĆ”n Ferro, he has been the one with whom we have recorded our last four albums at his studio (www.kollapsestudio.com) so in a way, perhaps, he was already part of the sound of Kalte Sonne. The guitar lines he adds in “P3X-7763” we believe match perfectly between our calm parts and those more chaotic and aggressive guitars. As for Abraham Cupeiro (www.abrahamcupeiro.com), he was a bit of an unknown. Add winds to our music and we didn’t know that it would inspire our music in him, since normally, he tends to develop in other fields. We were pleasantly surprised and now we cannot understand “Anarres” without its kawala and zurna.”
Many of our readers and your fans are wondering if there will be a chance to hear your music live, do you have plans in this regard for the near future?
“We have been quite active this last part of 2024 presenting the new album in the north of Spain and there are more concerts in sight for 2025. Some that make us especially excited. Unfortunately, our lives do not allow us to make many long-term plans or organize a tour but we are always looking forward to taking the occasional excursion as we did in the past such as to France, Italy, the UK.“
Do you have any special memories or anecdotes you would like to tell about your live experiences?
“A lot of them, maybe not very movie-like but we keep very good memories, like the night we spent on the cold seats of a train station in Leeds and its particular travelers. The night before a concert we slept in a freezing house. The concert in a small Italian villa for a very particular audienceā¦ but we believe that we will keep the opportunity that traveling around has given us to get to know places and people, some who with the passage of time have almost become like family.“
The band has been active for over 10 years, how has your sound evolved over time?
“The easy answer would be from a darker post-black metal to a post-metal with more post rock parts, but we always prefer that the listener say that. It’s surprising how many different things we listen to, some people can remember and others nail it by saying one of our favorite bands.“
Music is constantly evolving, how do you see today’s scene in your country?
“As for the quality of the bands, We think it is quite high. Maybe the venue circuit or simply the problem of live music today (that would be another conversation) does not help many bands to be able or try to move forward and stop their activity.“
What advice would you give to young artists approaching music with sounds like yours?
“Be yourselves and give us something new and fresh!!! Sometimes it may seem like it’s not worth it butā¦ it’s worth it.“
Do you have any other activities or artistic passions outside music?
“We believe nothing notable. Traveling, electronics, computers, reading, natureā¦ boring people.“
I thank the band for the interview and wish them all the best for the continuation of their artistic career.
“Thanks again to you for leaving us a space on your website, to all of you who have come this far and we hope to meet in the future.“

Great band. I saw them live just a couple of weeks ago in a small village in the North of Spain. A real good vibe and great sound live. I’ll definitely go and see them again if they do more local shows.
Great Band… I’m agree
