Dear readers, we are pleased to offer you in this article an interview with a Swiss band that plays Psychedelic Rock steeped in Blues and Stoner. We welcome Peacebone.
Hi, welcome to our pages! How are you?
“Hey, thanks for having us! Weāre doing great and super excited about the release of our new EP, “Blame The Bird”. Weāre feeling energized and ready to share it with the world!“
How did your project come about and what does the name Peacebone mean to you?
“The project came together pretty organically. We all met at the Gymnase and connected over a shared love for musicāespecially rock, blues, and the heavier, more experimental stuff. There were a lot of young bands in our area at the time, and we really wanted to be a part of that vibrant scene, bringing something new to the table. As for the name, it comes from the song “Peacebone” by Animal Collective, which our drummer’s father is a huge fan of. He suggested the name, and we loved how it felt. The cool thing is that our guitarist had never actually listened to the track-he didn’t want to hear it at all, just to keep the name’s meaning a bit of a mystery and maintain that hype around it. Plus, we were drawn to the visuals and imagery we could create around the name “Peacebone.”“
You offer a mixture of Psychedelic Rock, Blues, and Stoner, among others. How did you get into these sounds?
“Our musical tastes have naturally evolved over time. We were all originally drawn to classic rock and blues, but as we grew as a band, we became more intrigued by stoner and psychedelic rock. We started listening to more of those genres, and it just felt right to experiment with these sounds. It wasnāt so much a conscious decision to change direction; it was more about following where the music was taking us.“
Regarding this, what are your main sources of inspiration?
“Weāre inspired by a wide range of artists and genres. Bands like Led Zeppelin, All Them Witches, and Rival Sons have been huge influences on our sound. But beyond that, we pull inspiration from personal experiences, the world around us, and even random moments of creativity. Music is a reflection of our emotions and thoughts, so itās always evolving depending on where we are in life.“
The new EP āBlame The Birdā is due out in late January 2025. How would you describe this work?
“‘Blame The Bird’ is an intense and cathartic journey for us. Itās a reflection of some personal struggles weāve gone through, but also a celebration of growth and self-discovery. The EP combines powerful instrumentals with heartfelt lyrics that deal with themes of societal pressure, self-doubt, and the need for change. It’s heavy, but thereās also a certain nostalgia and hope that runs through it.“
Intense instrumental textures and vocal partsāwhat themes do the lyrics deal with?
“The lyrics are very personal, and they touch on themes like feeling lost, dealing with societal oppression, and searching for your true self. We wanted to explore the complexity of emotions during tough times, but also highlight the importance of dreaming and love as a healing force. Itās our way of showing that, even when you feel broken, thereās always a way forward.“
An interweaving of genres and styles, thanks to your personal touchāhow does the creative process of your music take place?
“The creative process is very collaborative. Samuel (our guitarist) usually brings in the main riffs and ideas, and then we all work together to shape the song. Rebekah (vocals) adds her melodies and lyrics to the demos. Itās very organic, and we often let the music dictate the direction we take. Thereās a lot of back-and-forth, and everyoneās input is valued.“
After two full-lengths, you offer this EPāhow has your sound evolved over time?
“Weāve definitely evolved over time. Our earlier work was rooted in classic rock, but with this EP, weāve embraced more of the psychedelic and stoner rock influences that have been shaping our sound lately. Itās more layered, experimental, and emotionally raw. Weāve found a balance between the old-school vibes we love and the more experimental textures weāre exploring now.“
Many of our readers and your fans wonder if there will be a chance to hear your music live. Doyou have plans for that in the near future?
“Absolutely! Weāre super excited to be playing live again. Weāve got our EP release party on January 31, 2025, and weāll be playing at the “Passion Vinyles” festival on June 15. Weāve also got some dates lined up in Zurich and Winterthur, with more shows planned for later in the year. We canāt wait to bring the new music to our fans!“
Youāve been active for a few years now-do you have any anecdotes or special memories from your live experiences?
“Playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival, especially on the Super Bock Stage, was a truly magical experience. It was raining during our performance, and while most bands might see that as a challenge, it actually made the whole moment feel even more mystical. People were still there, standing in the rain, fully immersed in the music. The energy of the crowd, despite the weather, was amazingāit felt like a shared experience where everyone was just focused on the moment. It was so humbling to see so many people sticking around, enjoying the set, and embracing the vibe despite the rain. It added this unexpected, almost surreal quality to the performance. We were definitely in awe of the whole thingāit felt like a true milestone, and a memory weāll never forget.“
The heavy rock scene is full of festivals and concertsāhow important is it to keep these events alive?
“Itās crucial. Festivals and live events are where we connect with our fans and other artists. They create a sense of community and keep the energy of rock music alive. Itās one of the best ways to experience musicālive and in the moment. Plus, itās where we discover new bands and get inspired ourselves.“
Music is constantly evolving-how do you see the modern scene in your genre?
“The modern scene is really exciting. Thereās a lot of experimentation happening, and a lot of new bands are pushing boundaries. Psychedelic rock, stoner rock, and blues are all blending together in new ways. Itās a great time to be part of this scene because thereās a sense of freedom to explore and create without worrying too much about fitting into any one box.“
What advice would you give to young artists approaching music with sounds like yours?
“The hardest thing is managing to do everything yourself. It requires so much knowledge and skill to be an artist nowadays. You need to know much more than just making music if you want the chance to be heard. Itās so hard to stand out and create opportunities. We would advise artists to try their hand at everything. All the skills they develop will help them and allow them to succeed in a DIY way. Itās the only way forward. You always have to find solutions and ways to push projects forward despite the lack of money.”
Do you have any other activities or artistic passions outside of music?
“Absolutely! We all have our own passions outside of music. Rebekah is really into cooking and enjoys organizing events sheās always the one bringing people together and creating fun experiences. As a band, weāre all huge gamers, and every Sunday, we make time to play together its become a bit of a ritual. Weāre also big fans of Formula 1, so we often gather to watch races and talk strategy. Samuel has a deep love for art and philosophy, which influences the way he approaches both life and music. Simon and Julien run a recording studio called Arcane Production, which is where we recorded our EP. Itās their brainchild, and weāre lucky to have such a creative space to work in. Colin is definitely the most sociable of us-always connecting with people and keeping the vibes high. Weve all got our own things, but music, gaming, and just enjoying time together are what keep us grounded and united.“
Thank you for the interview! Wishing you all the best for your new release and the continuation of your artistic career.
“Thank you so much! We really appreciate your support, and weāre looking forward to what the future holds. We hope everyone enjoys āBlame The Bird,ā and we canāt wait to play it live for all of you!“
