“PRJ Compilation Vol. IX – Shifting Horizons” explores the restless, cross-contaminated landscape of Modern Progressive Rock — a genre that refuses to stand still, constantly absorbing new influences, mutating its own DNA, and pushing its boundaries into uncharted territory. This ninth edition is not merely a collection of tracks but a sonic document of evolution in progress, mapping five distinct voices that share a common refusal of creative stagnation.
Far from Classic Rock nostalgia or genre orthodoxy, “Shifting Horizons” investigates Progressive Rock as a living, plural language — where Symphonic architecture, Heavy Stoner energy, Psychedelic drift, Space-Rock expansiveness, and Instrumental Experimental Metal coexist and interact, redefining what “progressive” means in 2026.
Below is the tracklist with essential references, accompanied by short descriptions highlighting the artistic, stylistic, and contextual features of each piece.

01. zabrahana – “snakes”
(Thessaloniki, Greece – Progressive Rock)
The band states: “zabrahana is a progressive rock/metal band from Thessaloniki, Greece. Their sound is a combination of rhythmic variation, atypical harmonic patterns & unorthodox song structure. Their debut single ‘water’ was released on January 31st, 2025, and it showcases the band’s progressive influences, from the likes of Porcupine Tree, Karnivool, Pain of Salvation, Opeth, TOOL, Riverside, Leprous, etc. It was followed up by their debut EP ‘whales dream in purple’, released on February 28th, 2025. Having played multiple local stages and appearing on festival bills, their energetic and intimate live presence is something to look out for. embrace the enigma.”

02. Hermit Bear – “Hermits Dream”
(Thun, Switzerland – Symphonic Neo Prog)
Hermit Bear is the solo project of Swiss musician Urs Fahrni — a one-man studio endeavour where every string and keyboard part is performed, composed, and crafted by hand, with zero AI involvement. “Hermits Dream” opens First Out, his debut release, with a layered, form-conscious approach that draws from the finest traditions of Symphonic and Crossover Prog: unpredictable structures, rich harmonic movement, and a sharp focus on timbral depth. A quiet but compelling voice in the contemporary European prog scene.

03. Splet – “Crvena smrt”
(Serbia – Progressive / Psychedelic / Space Rock)
Splet are a mystery. No bio, no press shots, no social media noise — just the music, released from Serbia into the void and left to speak entirely for itself. “Crvena Smrt” (Red Death) moves through jazz-inflected guitar lines, hypnotic rhythmic undercurrents, and vast psychedelic Space Rock expanses with the instinct of a band that jams with purpose. Raw, immersive, and impossible to pin down — exactly the kind of discovery PRJ lives for.

04. Simia Sapiens – “House On Fire”
(Aarau, Switzerland – Progressive Stoner Rock)
Simia Sapiens fuse heavy Stoner Rock with screaming guitar solos, Punk-driven rhythms, sudden tempo changes, and long instrumental passages — topped by fierce, politically charged vocals that are radically left and unapologetically angry. “House On Fire,” the centrepiece of their third album “War Cries of Devolution,” is an eleven-minute statement: a slow-burning, progressive monster that escalates from brooding groove into full sonic upheaval. Heavy, technical, and politically awake.

05. Unrefined Form – “Infinite Lights”
(Osijek, Croatia – Instrumental Experimental Progressive Rock/Metal)
Unrefined Form define their own name as “imperfect energy that exists where one does not — boundless by time and space.” “Altered States,” their most ambitious work to date, is the result of four years of deep compositional labour, and “Infinite Lights” is its opening statement: a sweeping, cinematic piece that blends 80s-influenced Rock textures with Electronic depth and Progressive Metal architecture. Instrumental, expansive, and quietly visionary.

“Shifting Horizons” reflects the idea that Progressive Rock is far from a closed chapter — it is an ever-mutating creative force, capable of absorbing contradictions and turning them into something new. Each selected contribution acts as a vector of transformation: from melodic Symphonic layers to raw political Stoner energy, from the enigmatic darkness of Serbian Psychedelia to the boundless instrumental cosmos of Croatian Prog/Metal. Together, these five tracks form a coherent, restless picture of a genre in full, irreversible evolution.
Continue the journey: listen deeply, explore, and experience this compilation not just as a series of tracks, but as a map of shifting sound.
This compilation was curated by Jacopo Vigezzi and Delia Lunardi Acosta — track selection, cover art, and overall visual concept are the result of an equal, shared creative vision.
