Dark Shaman are a trio from Syracuse, Italy offering a blend of Stoner, Doom and heavy Psychedelia with Occult themes. The debut EP “Evil ceremony” was released on August 30, 2023 and contains four long tracks. The opening track “The Black Skull” immediately plunges us into the band’s musical world with a gritty rhythm section and heavy guitar riffs. Dark atmospheres permeate the sound, incisive and penatrating, over which a vocal enriched by effects in line with the band’s musical style is inserted. The instrumental section in the second half is interesting, offering solo guitar cues that give the track an acid touch. The EP’s shortest track “Horror Night” retains the dark atmospheres and themes of its predecessor. Gritty guitar riffs and a solid rhythm section, enveloping vocals create the right blend of Psychedelia and Doom with a modern imprint. In the final part of the song, the band accelerates the rhythm and offers a scratchy guitar solo. “Sign Of The Wizard” is more energetic and heavy, showing the band’s heavier side. A monolithic rhythm section, distorted riffs that are always well constructed and engaging and the vocals enriched by the affects that make the track even more engaging. A track that fits well into the modern context of the genre between Stoner and Doom, interpreted with the band’s personal touch. The tracklist ends with “Acid Addict” characterised by intertwining acid guitars and a granitic rhythm section. The track moves slowly but powerfully, always creating that dark, enveloping atmosphere that characterises its sound. An alternation of incisive vocals and instrumental parts with pleasant solo cues and riffs always well constructed with a fresh and modern imprinting.
