Delvoid is a quartet from Oslo, Norway that offers an explosive blend of Prog, Post-Rock and Alternative with massive riffs and a personal Psychedelic touch. The new album “Swarmlife” was released on April 29, 2022 via Banditt Media contains 6 long running tracks ranging from over 7 to over 10 minutes. The opening track “Techtree” begins with an effects intro on which the band builds a theme with intertwining guitar arpeggios and an elaborate rhythm session. After this first introductory part, a dynamic and expressive vowel enters and the track increases in intensity and develops over continuous tempo changes and elaborate textures. By combining Post-Rock traits with Prog processing, the band creates a sound with a personal and modern character, with heavier sections and excellent guitar textures and a solid rhythm session. A track that immediately immerses us in the sound of the album. Granitic guitar riffs and a powerful rhythmic session open “Urras” with a vocal that alternates solo and choral parts, of fine workmanship. The sound is heavier than the previous one, always with an attitude to the mixture of genres, combining Prog and Post-Rock with an at times Psychedelic attitude. The guitar works are excellent, with tempo changes and intricate passages in the instrumental sections that take the sound to another level. The voacle is a real added value for the piece, passing with technique from melodic parts to other warmer passages through more aggressive passages. “Out Of Labor” is a track that exceeds 10 minutes, and begins with guitar arpeggios, a deep and leading bass line and the usual vocal that draws the lyrics on the music. Mixing more intricate passages with heavier openings, between granite riffs with intense and refined instrumental sections. A track that enhances the band’s compositional technique, full of original and quality ideas, elaborate plots with that unmistakable personal touch. With an intertwining of arpeggios halfway between Post-Rock and Psychedelia, “Collapsist” is characterized by an enveloping sound, which changes and evolves continuously. So much is the quality expressed in the changes and in the intense and dynamic vocal, passing with ease from heavier parts to softer and more enveloping ones. the continuous tempo changes allow this valuable union of genres and styles, with a second part that accompanies us to the finale with a rhythmic section and more Psychedelic atmospheres. “Third Body” is characterized by a predominantly softer sound with intertwining arpeggios and a positive atmosphere, with a new intense and high-level vocal. Change tempo and quality ideas with harder passages and riffs that bring the sound to a heavier style by increasing the intensity. The album ends with the epic track “The Master’s House” which exceeds 13 minutes in duration, which opens with more dilated arpeggios and sounds and a warm and expressive vocal. The sound in the first part is softer and deeper, and then with a change back to the more energetic sounds of the band. Adapting and shaping the most modern sounds of prog and Post-Rock with the personal traits of the band, this song closes the album in a fine way, taking advantage of the long duration to enhance the executive and executive technique. A band that manages to propose sonorities with markedly personal traits, skilled in combining multiple genres and styles and proposing them with original ideas. Long tracks that allow you to develop elaborate instrumental sections with refined textures and a solid sound, while the sung parts show how the vocal is one of the added values of the disc. I recommend this listening, which I personally found innovative, proposing a winning blend of multiple genres including Prog, Post-Rock, more Heavy passages and forays into Psychedelia, which I want to summarize with one term: masterpiece.
