Firpo Chompeavy is an Italian project born in 2016, with Experimental/Stoner Metal sounds with an EP and a full-length to its credit. The album titled “Smoking 45” was released on March 18, 2022 via Wormholedeath and contains 11 medium length tracks. The album opens with the introductory track “Innocent Novels Told by Racoons and Opossum” with ambient sounds, which accompanies us to listen to “Cyrus and the Pink Ranger.” Granitic guitar riffs and a powerful and tight rhythmic session on which an aggressive vocal is inserted, a track that combines Rock and a Punk attitude. With tempo changes and accelerated, it develops with engaging riffs and choral parts, and then ends the singing and the initial theme and closes. “Curtain Maggot Gap” opens with heavy guitar riffs and massive drumming, heavy bass lines and a dirty and aggressive vocal. A track that offers a mixture of Heavy Rock and Stoner with more energetic and pulled sounds, with continuous accelerations in the rhythm. In the second part, where there is an elaborate instrumental section, the rhythm slows down and the band offers good guitar textures and tempo changes. A crowd of voices begins “Fighting with a Stool” which offers a sound that is always energetic and with distorted guitar riffs but less heavy than the previous one. A Heavy Rock that is enriched by tempo changes and a vocal at times aggressive in others softer, with in the second part a good lead guitar insert and a killer bass line that gives value to the song. “They Are All Out to Get Me, Except You (You’re Just a Fanny)” is a monolithic track with powerful drumming and good guitar weaving between successful riffs and arpeggios. The vocal is energetic and aggressive, alternating the verses with choral parts, while the sound of the track is closer to the Metal sounds. The solo guitar insert in the second part is good, and then closes in a musical crescendo that increases its intensity. Connecting to the previous one with the final “Humanimal” guitar effect, it presents a vocal with dark, dynamic and expressive features. The riffs are heavy and the rhythm is massive, crenaod a solid sound and of a Stoner matrix, with contaminations, mainly Metal. An energetic and engaging track, with classic choral parts and impactful riffs. With heavier and darker sounds, “I Don’t Eat Soaring Disks” is a track that accelerates the rhythm with the passing of the minutes. After a first part with granite riffs and an expressive vocal, in the central part he inserts more taut Metal elements, for a fast and energetic second part. “Devour You Like a Krokodil” opens with chitrarra arpeggios and a spoken vocal, for an intro with a melancholy atmosphere. The track develops with a tight drumming and granite guitar riffs and an aggressive vocal, with choral parts as the band has accustomed us to. Solid and with an accelerated rhythm, it incorporates traditional Metal sounds with a retro touch, with the most modern heavy Rock and the personal traits of the band. Massive guitars and a more classic Metal-style vocal characterize “Titans Cry for a Mechanical Black,” with markedly retro features. Another passage full of energy, engaging and with successful and engaging guitar riffs, a tight rhythm. “Silver Star Cigarettes” shows the more Stoner Metal side of the band, with a more modern sound and close to today’s releases of the genre. A powerful track, with accelerated and massive guitar riffs, a long instrumental section in the second part with the guitar as protagonist and a solid and tight drumming. The longest track of the album “Tokyo Soda Overdrive” presents an intro with a dark atmosphere, which turns into a solid track with marked Stoner Metal features. Energetic and with a powerful vocal, in the instrumental section in the second part she shows a more Rock side of the band’s sound, then returns to more Metal sections and closes. The album ends with “House of Skylarks” which is more in the form of a ‘song’ with Blues influences, a rhythmic session with percussion and minimal. Intertwining acoustic guitar and a warm and expressive vocal conclude this powerful listening with a softer touch. An album in line with modern Stoner Metal releases, with a sound with personal traits that incorporates elements of various genres, attributable to Heavy Rock / Metal. Aggressive vocals, granite riffs and massive rhythmic sessions, enriched by tempo changes and accelerated, are the main ingredients of the band’s sound. A recommended listening for all lovers of the heavier sounds of the Stoner with a marked presence of Metal between classical and modern.
