Leon Alvarado is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who has played and collaborated with the biggest names in Progressive Rock worldwide. His new album “Charging The Electric Dream” released on December 15, 2022 via Melodic Revolution Records and contains 7 medium-length tracks. The opening track “Alternate Frequencies” is characterised by an interweaving of layering synths. The track shows the more Ambient facet of the artist’s sound, with an electronic feel and dilated, hypnotic melodies. The longest track in duration “Megapolis” traces the sound of the previous one in its opening, adding electronic rhythmic parts in the course of the song. A mixture of Ambient sounds, Kosmische Music and modern electronics in the finale, enhancing Leon’s ability to modulate sounds. “Space Glitter” is a track with excellent synth work and an engaging electronic rhythm section. The sounds are manipulated and modulated with technique, adding melodies and effects inserts at just the right moment. Alternating between more energetic passages and others with dilated sounds, “Orion” mixes more hypnotic sections with rhythmic, atmospheric openings. Dark, deep sounds characterise “The Rising Sun,” recalling the synth bass lines of 1970s German electronic music. In the middle part, the intensity increases with the entry of drumming and a more powerful sound, ending with an ambient section with dilated, scratchy sounds. Powerful and markedly electronic “The Electric Dream” presents a set of dark and penetrating sounds. The melodies are layered to create a trippy atmosphere, bringing the electronic sounds of the 1970s into a modern context. The album concludes with “Outside The Dream” where the first part is centred on an imposing organ sound. The second part, on the other hand, develops on a hypnotic background and enveloping synth melodies, between effects and modulations. A listen that brings the sounds of electronic music from the 1970s into a modern context, with references to the German masters of the genre. Skillful Leon modulates the different sounds and keyboards used on the disc, between Ambient and electronic music with a touch of Kosmische Music. A recommended listen for lovers of electronic sounds with an excellent exploration of the various sounds of synths and electronic instruments.
