Dhidalah is a Japanese trio that offers Psychedelic/Space Rock sounds, their name derives from the Japanese legend of the Giant Gods, known as the creaters of mountains, lakes and islands. The second and new album “Sensoria” was released on April 22, 2022 via GuruGuru Brain and contains 4 long-running ones, including the final of over 20 minutes. The sound of the band also in this album incorporates elements of various genres, ranging from the most modern sounds Stoner/Doom to Space Rock and Kraut, with an aptitude for improvisation and Jam session. The album opens with “Soma” which immediately highlights the retro style of the band, with a 70s Space Rock style sound with a solid rhythm session and good guitar textures. The effect-enhanced vocal is enveloping and lysergic, while the guitar offers distorted and edgy lead inserts. Combining more Heavy and modern traits with the Space tradition, the band offers a constantly evolving sound also thanks to a valuable use of effects, with the intensity that grows with the passage of the track. The following “Invader Summer” opens with the leading guitar and a solid and tight rhythm session with deep and driving bass lines. The spoken vocal is inserted in the background, making us fly with the mind through the deepest cosmos, accompanied by a granite sound with more Heavy guitar solo inserts. Continuing with the prolonged guitar solo, which accompanies us for almost the totality of the song, highlighting the band’s attitude to Jam sessions. “DEAD” is the shortest track on the album with an imprinting closer to the Psychedelia of the late 60s, with an intertwining of percussion and acoustic guitar and that oriental touch of the most delicate compositions of the genre. A good journey through time and space, with a sound permeated with lysergic sounds and the noise FX in the background, simply Psychedelic. The album closes with “Black Shrine” the longest track, exceeding 20 minutes in duration, which opens with a decidedly Spatial atmosphere. Guitar arpeggios, FXs and drumming that slowly emerges in the background and joins the deep bass lines. The long duration allows the band to be able to freely develop the theme of the song, enhancing all the facets of their sound, between retro style and personal traits. The intensity increases with the passing of the minutes, incorporating heavier elements and inserting a vocal rich in enveloping and acid modulations. In the central part with a tempo change they offer a softer instrumental section, Psychedelic and with expanded sounds, and then slowly increase the intensity and return to a more Heavy style, incorporating more modern Stoner/Doom elements. A Space Rock album with marked Psychedelic influences and forays into Stoner, with long instrumental plots, enhancing the technique of the musicians involved and their propensity for Jam. The guitar is at the center of the sound with long lead inserts, while the rhythm session is in line with the more retro-inspired Space Rock matrix. The vocals are enriched by the effects giving an enveloping effect to the sound, a pleasant journey between the past and the present of the genre, giving a future and new life to Space Rock. A listening recommended for lovers of the genre, with a well-amalgamated blend of genres and styles with the strong personal imprint of the band, skilled in bringing to the present day the classic sounds of the genre with a modern touch.
