PRJ Compilation Vol. XII

PRJ Compilation Vol. XII – Maps of Broken Time” does not follow a straight line — because Progressive Music never does. This twelfth edition traces a deliberately fractured arc through five distinct sonic territories, each one charted by artists who refuse to navigate by known routes. From the sweeping architecture of Symphonic Progressive metal to the circular, ominous sophistication of Jazz-Prog; from the explosive contrasts of Alternative Progressive Rock to the ancient esoteric weight of Avant-Garde composition; arriving finally at the dense, socially charged landscape of progressive art rock. Five maps. All of them broken by time.

Maps of Broken Time” is a compilation about the courage to sound different — about patterns that repeat, worlds being built and dismantled, and the restless human need to push music beyond its own boundaries. In 2026, progressive rock lives precisely in this uncharted space, and this volume is a document of that ambition. Each track was selected by ear, not algorithm. Each artist brings a vision that is entirely their own.

Below is the tracklist accompanied by exclusive quotes from the participating artists.

02. DarWin – Loophole

(International, Progressive Rock)

Exclusive quote from the band:

Loophole” is a cautionary tale about history repeating itself, where failed human behaviors and conflict patterns continuously rear their ugly heads. Can we escape these repeating patterns? Driven by circular acoustic lines and an ominous atmosphere, the track features an all star cast of Simon Phillips, Mohini Dey, Greg Howe, Matt Bissonette, Andrew Freeman, J3PO and Jesse Seibenberg!

03. Blending Borders – Into The Unknown

(Austria, Progressive Rock / Alternative / Funk)

Exclusive quote from the band:

Blending Borders build their sound on contrasts — from quiet atmospheres to sudden bursts of intensity. Their new album A Quiet World takes a harder, more direct, and rock-driven approach.

04. Haedrons – Abramelin

(Texas, Avant-Prog / Experimental / Progressive Rock)

Exclusive quote from the band:

“Abramelin” was inspired by The Book of the Sacred Magic of Abramelin the Mage, a central text in Western esotericism that details lengthy and complex magical rituals for many purposes. As the oldest of the four compositions written for Palimpseste, it is the piece that set the trajectory for all of the material on that record.

05. Orange Utan – Ohnmachtdas

(Germany, Progressive Art Rock)

Exclusive quote from the band:

Hailing from Dresden & Berlin, the German band Orange Utan is heading for the release of their 3rd album on March 27, 2026 via Bandcamp (download, CD, artbook). The nine songs on “Futur III” reflect life in a modern society where consumption and capital are worshipped like religion, and people struggle to find the courage to create a better world. The band expands their bold, genre-bending signature sound established in previous albums katastrophil (2018) and JETZT MACHT! (2014) with the addition of synthesizers, cello and choirs.

Maps of Broken Time” is a compilation about vision — the kind that doesn’t follow maps, but draws new ones. Each of these five artists inhabits that uncharted space in their own way, building something that is uncompromising in its ambition and deeply honest in its craft. Progressive Rock, Jazz Prog, Avant-Garde and Art Rock in 2026 — complex, restless, and impossible to ignore.

This compilation was curated by Jacopo Vigezzi // Progressive Rock Journal
