[Review] Bobbie Dazzle – Fandabidozi

Bobbie Dazzle is an eclectic UK Glam Rock project, contaminated by Progressive and Psychedelia with female vocals, flute and keyboards. The debut album “Fandabidozi” was released on October 04, 2024 via Rise Above Records and contains 10 tracks ranging from 3 to over 4 minutes in length. The opener “Lightning Fantasy” immediately immerses us in the band’s energetic rock sound, with intertwining hammond and granitic guitar riffs. The rhythm section is solid, with a good malgam between the energetic drumming and the load-bearing bass lines. The vocals are dynamic and incisive, a real added value to the sound, adding personality to the piece. A blast of Rock tr Glam and retro sounds brought into a fresh and modern context with an intense instrumental section in the second half. A track we have come to appreciate as a single with video, “Merry-Go-Round,” is another engaging piece with a retro imprint. The atmospheres of the past come alive through the engaging lyrics and refrains interpreted by Bobbie Dazzle‘s warm vocals. The sound is solid and contaminated by Progressive Rock, particularly in the instrumental section where the flute takes the sound to another level. Refined textures of keyboards and flute then return to the energetic opening theme and conclude with the last verses in a musical crescendo. “Revolution” is the longest track on the album, clocking in at over 4:30, and features engaging melodies and refrains with male choruses intertwining with powerful female vocals. The rhythm section is energetic and full of tempo changes, allowing the development of this engaging theme that enhances the band’s songwriting, incorporating more melodic elements between Prog and Glam Rock with a fine keyboard solo in the finale. The more symphonic and delicate side of the band is enhanced in “Magic of Music,” a softer passage incorporating elements of Pop and Prog Rock. With its retro atmosphere, the piece takes us back in time on this pleasant journey through the different facets that characterise the band’s sound. Catchy choruses and good guitar work accompany us throughout the track. We return to more energetic and rhythmic sounds with “Back to the City,” an engaging track with choruses that immediately catch on. The sound is reminiscent of mid-70s Hard Rock, with a solid rhythm section and good guitar work and dynamic, melodic vocals. Very interesting is the mixture of Hard Rock and Proto-Punk that characterises “It’s Electric,” a burst of energy with a rough and dirty sound. The organ adds that Heavy Rock touch to a sound closer to late 70s wave, with another convincing and incisive vocal performance. Definitely tracks like this appeal to fans immediately and perform perfectly in live performances. “Antique Time Machine” is another Rock’n’Roll blast with reminiscences of bands like Thin Lizzy and the whole early 70s Hard Rock scene. A dynamic vocal with engaging choruses, between male and female vocals, solid guitar riffs and a granitic rhythm section enriched by a killer bassline. The keyboards embellish the sound, creating excellent mixes with the guitar that offers a good solo insert in the second half. Another excellent, granitic track that enhances the band’s compositional and performing technique, “Lady on Fire,” also shows another excellent vocal performance. The sound is closer to Hard Rock, with refined guitar and organ breakdowns, a solid and elaborate rhythm section, developing an intense and refined instrumental section in the second half. Prog influences permeate the sound, with the flute offering interesting solo inserts, before returning to the initial theme and concluding with the last vocal stanzas. Continuing to explore a more Progressive Rock sound, “April Showers,” incorporates melodic refrains over an elaborate and very intense theme. The combination of a more Heavy and Progressive sound is interesting, with reminiscences of early 70s bands, forays into Folk Rock and that personal touch of the band that we are getting to know through this album. The instrumental section in the second part is very interesting, and the last verses conclude in a crescendo. The album ends with “Flowers on Mars,” which returns to exploring sounds somewhere between classic Rock and Post-Punk. The band’s original traits are enhanced, offering another explosive and engaging track. An interesting, energetic and very engaging listen from start to finish, with more Rock passages, forays into Post-Punk and Progressive. The band’s sound is fresh, modern and with markedly personal traits, with the vocals being an added value, giving personality and incisiveness to the tracks. Well-constructed riffs intertwining with keyboards, solid and elaborate drumming and deep, load-bearing bass lines, with the addition of flute to enrich the sound. A recommended listen for lovers of Glam Rock sounds with forays into Progressive, Post-Punk, with very personal and original traits.
