Talos is a Honduran based trio that offers Progressive Rock sounds with reminiscences of the Canterbury Scene and German Electronic music. The album “El Primer Androide” was released on March 20, 2022 via Viajero Inmovil Records and contains 8 medium to long playing tracks. A concept that has as its theme the myth of Talos evokes man’s longing for war, immortality, mortality, love. The album opens with the intro “Introducción” where a narrator introduces us to the theme of the concept and the story of Talos. An atmospheric background leads us to “Creta,” the following track, developed on a massive organ on which develops a fine Canterbury-style solo. The plots combine the Prog traits with the more Jazzy ones of the Canterbury Scene, with long solo plots that enhance the individual technique of the band’s musicians. The artists are able to propose the sounds of the 70s in a modern key, adding their own personal touch, with engaging duets between keyboards and guitar. “Talos I” opens with an intro that mixes electronic features and atmospheric sounds, and then transforms and continues on the style of the previous one. The organ gives body to the melodies, the rhythm session is solid, and the keyboards are free to blend in with intricate lead textures. With continuous tempo changes, the track develops long instrumental textures that alternate more Jazzy passages with more progressive openings, creating a refined and elaborate sound with retro features. The following “El Argo” has a darker atmosphere, keyboards and guitar duet at their best, with extensive use of orchestrations and solo inserts. An interesting and at times hypnotic track, where the Canterbury features of the band stand out, with a succession of solo plots. An intro with electronic and atmospheric sounds opens “Medea” which turns into a track with very refined and intricate textures. Frantic rhythms and melodies markedly Jazz Prog, with technical insects and passages and strong references to 70s music. Well composed and well done, it allows the artists involved to dialogue in the best possible way by combining the past and the present of the genre thanks to their personal touch. The second part of the central theme of the album “Talos II” is a short passage that fits into an avant-garde context, where the band experiments with sounds and effects. Softer and more inspired by the Classic prog “Una Larga Travesía a Casa” shows some more Jazzy inserts and an atmosphere that is sometimes dreamy. In the central part the rhythmic session accelerates and becomes more intricate with a very interesting intertwining of guitar solos and keyboards that accompanies us until the end. The album ends with “Talos III” which concludes the central theme, which after a short intro develops a theme with the organ and the guitar in evidence. The sounds combine more intricate and harder features, showing all the versatility and influences of the band, skilled in combining Prog and Fusion with references to the 70s. Long solo plots and more symphonic openings alternate, closing this good listening and leaving us with the desire to surely listen to the record again. This trio is adept at bringing back the sounds of the Canterbury Scene to the present day with their own personal touch and modern traits that blend with retro ones. The imprint of the album is certainly closer to those sounds than to the Classic Prog, resulting refined and elaborated with technical passages and excellent guitar and keyboard textures. The rhythm session is enriched by tempo changes and intricate passages, leaving freedom of expression for the guitar and keyboards. An album recommended to all lovers of the more Jazzy sounds of Prog, with clear references to the Canterbury Scene and a high level individual technique.
