Acid Row is a band from Prague, Czechia that offers Stoner / Doom with influences from the 90s and Psychedelia from the 70s. The new album titled “Afterglow” was released on February 22, 2022 and contains 5 medium to long playing tracks. The opener “Devils Dance Floor” begins with rock-hard guitar riffs and a massive rhythm session, creating a sound that combines Doom and Stoner. The guitar is at the center of the scene, at 2 minutes the vocal with dark features enters, giving an occult touch to the track. A good lead guitar insert in the second part enhances the instrumental section, to accompany us until the closing. “White, Rich and Beautiful” begins with a solid and powerful sound and a 90’s attitude that mixes with more Psychedelic traits. The vocal enriched by the effects alternates involving sung parts with others that are more aggressive and penetrating. The bass lines are repeated and hypnotic and the guitar creates engaging riffs and passages, a concentrate of energy, which in the final becomes more acidic and aggressive decelerating until the closure. We are in the middle of the album with “Get Life” which continues offering a modern sound with a 90s attitude, biting riffs and a solid rhythmic session. The vocal, as always, alternates more lysergic parts with other aggressive ones, and the sound is enveloping and hypnotic, thanks also to the repeated sounds. The second half of the record begins with “Hot Rod Super Soul” and a sampled spoken vocal, rock-hard guitar riffs and a dark vocal. The rhythmic session is solid and the bass creates killer bass lines, which in the central part stand out and then start again returning to the more aggressive sounds of the band. Closes the listening “No Church on Sunday” which is the longest track, with over 11 minutes of duration. An intro with atmospheric sounds and a scream in the background, while the drumming is slowly inserted, as well as a distorted guitar that turns into granite riffs. From slow paced, it offers good guitar work and tempo changes between accelerates and an engaging vocal. The guitar stands out with fine workmanship solo inserts, recalling the Psychedelic sounds of the past. In the middle of the song the track changes and slows down, turning into an acid and softer sound, very enveloping, which accompanies us until the end of the disc. A band with an energetic sound and capable of creating engaging and successful riffs, the rtmica session is solid enriched by tempo changes. The vocals add a touch at times dark in others more aggressive to the sound, which mixes Stoner, Doom with references to Psychedelia and at times a 90s Grunge attitude. A listening recommended for lovers of modern Stoner and Doom sounds, with engaging riffs and vocals, driving bass lines and solid drumming.
