Splink is an English band active since 2020 that offers Progressive sounds with forays into Psychedelic Rock and Jam. Their long awaited 2022 album “Kozmosis” is a collection of new and older tracks that were previously unrecorded and unreleased. It’s a journey with multiple genre styles in the Progressive vein and contains 9 tracks. The album opens with the title track “Kozmosis” with retro Prog sounds, a valuable characteristic touch given by the violin, the band’s trademark. The plots have Fusion traits in some passages, and the piece is enriched with tempo changes and solo inserts that enhance the technique of the artists involved. The following “In The Pocket” which connects with the bass line and continues to evolve the theme of the previous one, with valuable solo violin passages. With duets between guitar and violin, a solid and elaborate rhythm session, the track combines Prog and Jam Psychedelica with a very intense sound. “Brambling Song” opens with a violin-driven sound with folk traits and positive melodies, with rock and traditional music merging. Continuing to explore the traditional sounds “Pins and Noodles” is another blend of Folk and Rock, with elaborate passages and the violin in evidence. The intensity increases with the passing of the minutes, transforming the piece that takes on harder strokes in the central part, and then returns more delicate in the final with a solo violin insert. Acoustic guitar arpeggios and violin melodies characterize the intro of “Greenlands” which returns to a more Folk Prog sound, with a solid sound centered on the solo textures of the violin. With darker atmospheres and an energetic and more Rock sound “Cavendish” in the first part is centered on violin meldoie. In the central part instead the electric guitar is inserted with a good solo, and then in the second part of the song accelerate and transform the sound on Heavy Prog characters. “Jeremy’s Been Shot” is characterized by a first part with oriental sounds, markedly Psychedelic and hypnotic. By increasing the intensity, in the central part the guitar offers a prolonged solo insert together with the violin, moving the sounds into a more Progressive Rock territory. The longest track on the album “Spaghetti Double Glazing” is a track with Fusion features, with an accelerated rhythm session and an intricate blend of violin and guitar. In the second part it becomes more Rock, with the violno leading the sound and massive guitar riffs, with a solid rhythm session full of tempo changes. The album closes with the acoustic version of “Greenlands” which incorporates the melodies with a more dreamy and melancholic atmosphere. A band that offers a violin-driven sound, with solid rhythmic sessions and good instrumental textures in which even the guitar fits in with solo parts. With different genres that mix and interchange, including Prog, Psychedelia and Jam, the band offers a solid and elaborate sound. A good album, recommended for lovers of instrumental sounds halfway between Prog and Psychedelia, with marked Folk influences, creating an original blend with personal traits.
