[Review] Come And See – Vol. I

Come And See is an international project that proposes a sophisticated Psychedelic Rock and that explores all the horizons of the genre. The band describes themselves as follows: “Two Americans and a Russian meet in a former tank factory beneath Budapest. What happens next? Come and See.” Their debut album “Vol. I” was released on October 14, 2021 via Psychedelic Source Records and contains 8 medium to long-length tracks. The opening track “Prelude” begins with atmospheric sounds and an effect-enhanced vocal and a crescendo drum, creating dark atmospheres. After the introductory song “Prayer of Death (desert song)” it immediately comes to life with massive riffs and inserts of electric guitar, deep bass lines and a solid rhythm session. The vocal is always effected, but at the center of the sound is the guitar that offers granite riffs and well-made 70s-style solo parts. The band offers classic Psychedelia sounds revisited in a modern key and with a personal touch, with long instrumental journeys. “Existence” is the longest track on the album, exceeding 7 minutes in duration, which begins with guitar arpeggios and an acid vocal, and then enters the slower rhythm session of the previous one. The intensity increases with the passage of the song, which evolves with deep and supporting bass lines, tracing the modern Psychedelic sounds always with that personal touch. A very intense piece, which shows a good compositional and executive technique, which in the second part offers fine workmanship solo guitar inserts. A slow rhythmic session and sounds that recall desert rock open “Child of Infinity,” where the vocal surrounds us and guides us in this lysergic journey. In the second part more space is given to the music that develops with original and elaborate sounds with a good use of the guitar pedals. “The Pleasure Trap” features a slowed pachydermic rhythmic session, a deep, penetrating bass that ties in well with guitar arpeggios. The lower-toned vocal always adds that acid touch to this song as well, which evolves into a musical crescendo that mixes Acid Rock and Desert, with forays into Stoner. “Divine the Divine (slip into the limitless)” continues in the musical discourse of the album, with an extra touch of incisiveness, always refined and elaborate plots. The sound here is closer to the classics of the genre, where the guitar with its inserts and the constantly evolving rhythm session are an added value. We have come to the track that gives its name to the project “Come and See” also over 7 minutes long, more rhythmic and with sounds that differ slightly from the previous songs. We are always in the field of Psychedelia, with a wide use of guitar effects and cleaner vocals. An engaging and enjoyable track that shows how the band knows how to shape their sound by creating interesting and original passages. The album closes with the shorter track “Child of Invisibility” composed only of drum and vocals, an outro of just over 1 minute. a work aimed at lovers of Psychedelic sounds, with references to the past but projected into the future of the genre, with inserts of Desert Rock and Stoner. Mainly characterized by slow rhythms enriched by tempo changes that increase the intensity, riffs and guitar inserts that are refined and rich in effects. An acid journey that will surely capture the attention of listeners of lysergic and psychedelic sounds. A project that will be interesting to listen to live.
